Edinburgh Film Festival goers will get a double helping of Corin Hardy’s debut horror The Hallow this weekend. The film has its UK premiere tomorrow night, spooking up proceeding royally with a folky yarn set in deep, dark woods full of things that go bump (and worse) in the night, before the man himself stops by the Empire Podcast to tell us all about it. Check out its new trailer below.
Dedicated to monster luminaries like Ray Harryhausen, Dick Smith and Stan Winston, The Hallow follows conservationist Joseph Mawle, his wife (Drag Me To Hell’s Bojana Novakovic) and their wee bairn to a remote mill in the Irish countryside. There, they unwittingly disturb the local nastie. “Fairies, banshees, baby stealers...” as the local scary man warns them.
The trailer builds to a satisfyingly creepy crescendo of nocturnal dread. Everything we’ve seen so far bodes well for Hardy’s next project: The Crow. If you’re not in Edinburgh this weekend, you can catch The Hallow across the rest of the UK on November 13. If you are, head here for details of its festival screenings.
