With Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lake Bell and Jon Bernthal already cast, action drama Shot Caller is continuing to round out its roster. Latest to sign up is Matt Gerald, lately perhaps best known as Daredevil's Melvin Potter.
The movie finds Coster-Waldau as a gangster freshly released from the slammer who is “encouraged” (read: ordered) to pull off a major, violent crime with a rival gang on the streets of Southern California. Gerald's role is that of a parole officer with a grudge against some particular gang members.
The director is Snitch’s Ric Roman Waugh, who also wrote the screenplay. The ex-stuntman reportedly went undercover as a parole officer to do the necessary prison gang research. That's some hardcore method writing right there.
Omari Hardwick, Benjamin Bratt, Emory Cohen, Juan Pablo Raba, Evan Jones and Jeffrey Donovan bulk up the rest of the cast, and production is already underway in New Mexico Bold Films is behind this one, with Relativity Studios agreeing to take on distribution for the finished product.
You can still catch Gerald in San Andreas, and we'll next see him in Solace with Colin Farrell, which is out in the UK on October 9.
