While he was mentioned a couple of months ago as the top choice for the job, and had struck up very early talks about the idea, Warm Bodies director Jonathan Levine has made a deal to call the shots on the untitled Fox comedy that has Trainwreck writer/star Amy Schemer attached.
Plot specifics on the project are still being kept quiet, but the basic idea is apparently about a mother and daughter on a holiday that goes horribly, hilariously wrong, yet allows for some family bonding.
Katie Dippold (who wrote The Heat for Paul Feig and has worked with him on the new Ghostbusters) was responsible for the original draft of the script, using her relationship with her own mother as fuel. Schumer has adapted it for her voice, writing alongside her sister Kim Caramele, who regularly serves as a producer on her show and worked on Trainwreck.
Feig is producing via his company, while Dippold remains attached as an executive producer. As for Levine, he has Christmas comedy The Night Before (which reunites his 50/50 stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen) due out here on December 4. And Schumer most recently appeared in her own HBO comedy special, Live At The Apollo, as well as been working on a script with Jennifer Lawrence for a film they want to star in.
