New Trailer For Zach Galifianakis' Masterminds

New Trailer For Zach Galifianakis' Masterminds

‘That bullet just grazed my biscuits…’

Masterminds’ pairing of Zach Galifianakis and Kristen Wiig sounds seriously auspicious. The queen of Bridesmaids and the king of The Hangover teaming up for comedic mayhem and a scene in which one loses their shit on heavy tranquillisers? Count us in. The movie’s new trailer offers a taste of what to expect when these two titans collide.

Galifianakis play dozy security truck driver David Ghantt who falls under the not-exactly-Voldemortish spell of Wiig’s flirty colleague, Kelly. She and her dubious pal Steve (Owen Wilson) persuade him to pull a heist on his own employers, preparing for him to fail horribly in the process. When he unexpectedly pulls off the job, it turns out to be the biggest bank robbery in US history. (Presumably excluding the whole subprime thing.)

Unsurprisingly, this hapless Bonnie and Clyde soon have the feds breathing down their necks as Steve starts splurging their newfound wealth around.

This one promises to mix slapstick with road trip caper, with Galifianakis getting his full redneck and Wiig providing bonus silliness. Masterminds gets its UK release on August 7.

Matt Gerald Joins Nicolaj Coster-Waldau In Shot Caller Cast

Matt Gerald Joins Nicolaj Coster-Waldau In Shot Caller Cast

Daredevil's Melvin gets some action

matt-herald-shot-caller

With Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lake Bell and Jon Bernthal already cast, action drama Shot Caller is continuing to round out its roster. Latest to sign up is Matt Gerald, lately perhaps best known as Daredevil's Melvin Potter

The movie finds Coster-Waldau as a gangster freshly released from the slammer who is “encouraged” (read: ordered) to pull off a major, violent crime with a rival gang on the streets of Southern California. Gerald's role is that of a parole officer with a grudge against some particular gang members.

The director is Snitch’s Ric Roman Waugh, who also wrote the screenplay. The ex-stuntman reportedly went undercover as a parole officer to do the necessary prison gang research. That's some hardcore method writing right there.

Omari Hardwick, Benjamin Bratt, Emory Cohen, Juan Pablo Raba, Evan Jones and Jeffrey Donovan bulk up the rest of the cast, and production is already underway in New Mexico Bold Films is behind this one, with Relativity Studios agreeing to take on distribution for the finished product.

You can still catch Gerald in San Andreas, and we'll next see him in Solace with Colin Farrell, which is out in the UK on October 9.

J.C. Chandor Considering Triple Frontier

J.C. Chandor Considering Triple Frontier

He may take over the former Kathryn Bigelow drama

JC-Chandor-Triple-Frontier

Since stepping off of Deepwater Horizon before it began filming, All Is Lost/A Most Violent Year writer/director J.C. Chandor has been in search of other projects. While many of them are ideas he options or creates himself, Deadline reports that he’s also interested in one that was started by someone else, with Chandor in early talks to take over Triple Frontier

Originally developed by Zero Dark Thirty duo Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal, Frontier is an ensemble piece set in the violent border zone situated between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil (hence “triple frontier”), a hot spot for organized crime and notoriously tough to police. Bigelow and Boal, who also worked on The Hurt Locker, had been letting this one build quietly but have decided instead to focus on a film about POW Bowe Bergdahl.

So now Chandor is talking to Paramount about possibly taking on Triple Frontier, which has seen interest from Tom Hanks and Will Smith, and there’s always the chance that Chandor, if he signs on, could be a lure to bring the talent to the table. Meanwhile, the filmmaker is still considering The Liar’s Ball, a true story of property tycoons in New York.
