Andy Garcia Joins Paul Feig's Ghostbusters

Andy Garcia Joins Paul Feig's Ghostbusters

Alongside Matt Walsh and Michael K. Williams

Andy-Garcia-Ghostbusters

As the cameras continue to roll on Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters, the Spy director is adding more cast members to his ensemble. He now has Andy Garcia, Matt Walsh and Michael Kenneth Williams on board

As you’ll likely already know, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon are already busy in the main roles, playing four women who must stop New York being swamped by spooks and ghouls.

Garcia is playing the mayor of the city the man who, if he holds true to Ghostbusters tradition, won’t be the biggest fan of the characters, at least not until he really needs their help. Walsh, currently best known for playing the nervy Mike McLintock on Veep, will be a character known as Rourke, though we don’t know what he’ll be up to. Could he be the usual busybody who gets in the Ghostbusters’ way? If so, he’ll be joining a proud lineage that includes actors William Atherton and Kurt Fuller. As for Williams, he’s also a mystery, but The Wrap reports he’s set to play someone named Hawkins. They join Chris Hemsworth, who is playing an assistant to McCarthy and co.

And in keeping with another hallmark of the original film, a real-life news anchor, this time NY1’s Pat Kiernan, will crop up in the plot to report on the spectral goings on and the women who are trying to stay in business busting ghosts.

Working from a script he co-wrote with Katie Dippold, Feig is now shooting in Boston, taking aim at a July 2016 release.

Justin Kurzel Developing True History Of The Kelly Gang

Justin Kurzel Developing True History Of The Kelly Gang

He's going criminal again with Snowtown co-writer Shaun Grant

Justin-Kurzel-Kelly-Gang

Writer/director Justin Kurzel and co-writer Shaun Grant broke through in a big way with Australian crime tale Snowtown. And for a new collaboration, they’re digging into more of the country’s criminal history for True History Of The Kelly Gang

Grant is working on an adaptation of Peter Carey’s eponymous novel, which chronicles Ned Kelly’s adventures through the man’s own eyes. Their history was a complicated one – in the eyes of the law, they were bandits and murderers, but to many ordinary Australians, they were heroes, the bushrangers who defied the English authority to life their own lives.

Kelly’s story has been brought to the screen several times before, including a 1906 version, Tony Richardson’s take in 1970 with Mick Jagger playing the main man and 2003’s Ned Kelly, which saw Heath Ledger taking on the role for director Gregor Jordan.

It’s early days for this one, so we don’t yet know when it’ll be shooting, but it has been in development for a while already, with Joe Penhall writing one version of the script. Kurzel is busy with other projects at the moment, including Assassin’s Creed, which reunites him with Macbeth’s Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard for the game adaptation that will be out here on December 16 next year.

Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Debuts A Comic-Con Poster

Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Debuts A Comic-Con Poster

And the Guardians Of The Galaxy cartoon has its own image

Though the Marvel Cinematic Universe itself won’t be represented at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the allied TV series will be there. Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the new Guardians Of The Galaxy ‘toon are both appearing on panels and Marvel has conjured up some artwork for the shows.

SHIELD-Poster-main

Created by artist Jim Cheung and colourist Romulo Fajardo Jr., the S.H.I.E.L.D. poster features Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson and the rest of the main cast in a collage that shows them all in action or pondering the middle distance, as faces on promotional posters are wont to do. The series, which returns in the autumn, is set to continue the Inhumans plotline that kicked into high gear this year with the revelations about Skye/Daisy (Chloe Bennett) and her connection to the characters we’ll see cropping up on the big screen in 2019. The Marvel TV panel, which will also include producers and cast from Agent Carter, will happen in Ballroom 20 on Friday July 10.

The Guardians image, meanwhile (debuted by IGN) has the characters from the comic book (and the slightly popular film) brought to animated life for a series of new adventures that won’t tie into James Gunn’s sequel, and doesn’t feature the voices of the movie cast, but promises to bring all the madness you’d expect from Star-Lord and co. The series is arriving on Disney XD on September 26, and footage will be screened at the Marvel Animation Presents panel in Room 6BCF on Saturday July 11.

New Images From Pixar's Next Short

New Images From Pixar's Next Short

Sanjay's Super Team is ready for launch

Sanjay-Super-Team-1

Back in April, the first imagery from Pixar’s next short film offering, Sanjay’s Super Team, arrived online. With the film planning a Comic-Con panel at the San Diego event this Thursday, new pictures have arrived via USA Today, with director Sanjay Patel talking up the project.

Sanjay’s Super Team channels Patel’s own childhood, spent growing up in the California motel owned by his Indian immigrant parents and chafing against his father’s wishes that he pay more attention to their religious beliefs. Especially when he was ringing a bell to call the lad to morning meditation. "I knew exactly what that meant: 'Turn off the TV, Sanjay, and get your tail over here. We're going to chant and count mala beads for half an hour,'" Patel says. "And I'm like, 'I don't really want to do that. I really want to watch Voltron.'"

But the ‘toon reveals an unexpected surprise: when Sanjay does join his father, he finds something even more amazing than the likes of Superman and the rest, as three Hindu deities come alive to battle a monster. Patel chose three that were most meaningful to him: the monkey-like Hanuman, Durga the goddess of power and protection and Vishnu, who represents preservation. "I kind of have an insider's point of view so I see them a little bit differently," he says.

Sanjays-Super-Team-2

Patel, who worked in the layout department of The Simpsons before moving to join Pixar for A Bug’s Life, has been working on the idea for a while. He’s created a story without dialogue, and enlisted the help of Mychael Danna, who won an Oscar for his Life Of Pi score, to bring the tale to life, with instruments including a South Asian flute known as the bansuri. "It's a choice that only somebody who really understood the culture would make and something for sure my dad would really appreciate."

Sanjay’s Super Team will be attached to The Good Dinosaur, which is arriving in the UK on November 27.
