Roger Ebert May Be Played By This Comedian In An Upcoming Movie

Fans of Roger Ebert know that his time in Hollywood wasn't merely limited to film criticism. In 1970, he famously teamed up with director Russ Meyer to make the musical comedy Beyond The Valley of The Dolls, putting his skills as a writer to work on the movie's screenplay. Now a movie is being made about that particular cinematic venture, titled Russ & Roger Go Beyond, and the production has its eye on a very popular young comedian to play Ebert: Frozen's Josh Gad. This news comes to us from The Wrap, which notes that Gad has not yet made a ...

Star Wars Episode 7 Just Got Way More Badass With This Casting

J.J, Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens is already set up to be pretty amazing, but this new casting announcement has added a special dose of awesomeness to the film. News has arrived saying that Iko Uwais, Yayan Ruhian, and Cecep Arif Rahman - the stars of the film Raid 2 - have been cast in Episode VII. It looks like Uwais, Ruhian, and Rahman will be bringing some intense martial arts skill to a galaxy far, far away. This news comes to us from Twitch, but as with most of the individuals involved with this film (with the exception ...

Major Crimes Creator Previews "Internal Affairs"

Major Crimes | Photo Credits: Darren Michaels/TNT

Major Crimes seldom puts one of its own characters at the center of a legal dilemma, particularly when that issue is fraught with political overtones, so let me take this opportunity to explain. The story in our next episode was broken, outlined, written and shot long before the recent rash of "use-of-force" issues became the subject of intense media scrutiny and civil unrest. Nothing you will see in "Internal Affairs" should be deemed a reaction to Ferguson or Cleveland or Staten Island! Far from expressing any ideological point-of-view, "Internal Affairs" was designed to finally put Julio Sanchez squarely on the wrong side of a physical confrontation with a criminal; it is the natural escalation of issues related to his temper.

Several times this season, viewers might have witnessed Det. Sanchez exhibit an inappropriate amount of anger toward criminal suspects — especially when young people or children are concerned...

The Peanuts Trailer Is Delightful And Daring

Those two lil' tykes Snoopy and Linus are back in an all-new trailer for The Peanuts Movie. We can't wait for the entire gang to return for their first go in 3D on the big screen. But until its release this November, here's a little teaser footage to whet your palette. Snoopy lets his imagination take flight atop his iconic red dog house, as he zig-zags through clouds, grapples with The Red Baron and almost crashes into the Eiffel Tower. Of course, good ol' Linus is there to cackle at this lovable cartoon pooch when he inadvertently falls into his ...

The Movie That Ruined Patton Oswalt's Theater Obsession

For years, Patton Oswalt struggled with an addiction to seeing movies. His world would revolve around his obsession with seeing movies in the theater--that is, until he saw Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Say what you will about Phantom Menace, but it was Oswalt's viewing of that film proved to be the catalyst to Oswalt overcoming his movie addiction. A movie addiction may sound strange, or even a bit of a flippant use of the word "addiction". However, in an interview with NPR recently, Oswalt explained that his struggle with movies was very real. If you're looking at the definition ...

Scarlett Johansson Suits Up For Ghost In The Shell

Scarlett Johansson Suits Up For Ghost In The Shell

She's officially on for the live-action Manga adaptation

Scarlett-Johansson-Suits-Up-For-Ghost-In-The-Shell

For a while, it looked like Margot Robbie would be slipping into the techno-suit for DreamWorks’ new, live-action take on Masamune Shirow’s Ghost In The Shell stories. But with the Australian actress committed to Warner/DC’s Suicide Squad, the company has had to turn to someone else. Step forward… Scarlett Johansson.

Black Widow herself is no stranger to action, scoring a box office hit last year with Luc Besson’s Lucy, and had previously been courted by DreamWorks for the lead role of a character based on Motoko Kusanagi, a cyborg law enforcer and one of the best on Japan’s National Public Safety Commission and its tech-focused team of crime stoppers. Now, she's officially on board, at least according to Variety.

Snow White And The Huntsman’s Rupert Sanders is still attached to direct the film, with William Wheeler having worked on the most recent draft of the script. Johansson’s casting will do little to allay the outcry at the lack of an Asian actress being cast in the film, but given Robbie’s initial offer and now Johansson’s, it seems clear the direction that DreamWorks wants to take, even if the film might have to weather comparisons to the various anime versions of the tale.

Johansson will be back on our screens as Natasha Romanoff for Avengers: Age Of Ultron, due April 24. She’s also been filming the Coen brothers’ latest, Hollywood golden age comedy drama Hail, Caesar!, which is scheduled for UK cinemas on February 26, 2016.
