One Of Batman's Most Beloved Characters Is Dead In Batman v Superman

While we don't know much about Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice's actual plot, we have a couple bits of information here and there to think over. Coincidentally enough, this darker than normal looking superhero movie seems to have one running theme through most of the news we've heard coming off of the set. That theme happens to be death. Warning! Possible Batman v Superman spoilers follow! Originally word was that by the time of Batman v Superman, Robin has died, and his passing deeply affected Bruce Wayne. Now though, word from Badass Digest is that it's not Robin who ...

White God Trailer: Watch The Dogs Of The World Rise Up

Kornel Mundruczo's latest film, White God presents a powerful metaphor for race, political, and class oppression by portraying a world where dogs (specifically "mutts") rise up against the humans who have mistreated them. After spending months on the festival circuit, the movie is finally getting ready for release, and now we have the first trailer, which you can see below. White God brings a bit of a new take to the Homeword Bound-style story. While the heart of the plot centers around Hagen the dog and Lili the human reuniting after being separated because Hagen is an unfit mixed-breed dog, ...

Kyle MacLachlan Voicing An Inside Out Character

Kyle MacLachlan Voicing An Inside Out Character

Diane Lane also part of Pixar's latest

Kyle-MacLachlan-Diane-Lane-Inside-Out

Though the majority of Pixar’s new film, Inside Out, takes place within the mind of an 11-year-old girl named Riley, her parents are also important characters and we definitely get glimpses within their brains. Now we know who will be giving voice at least to the outer part of the characters, with Kyle MacLachlan and Diane Lane announced as Riley’s mum and dad.

The story finds Riley affected by the family uprooting from the Midwest to San Francisco thanks to her father’s job. Her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Bill Hader) and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) all react differently to the changing situation and Joy and Fear end up separated from the group, necessitating a quest to get back as the others try to keep Riley centred.

And her parents bear the brunt of these shifting emptions, according to writer/director Peter Docter. "These guys are the pillars on both sides," Docter tells USA Today. "They are pivotal parts, knowing how joyful this kid Riley used to be and the young woman she's changing into." And for Docter, it’s a personal story. "I started out doing a film about growing up, but it turned out it's a film about me watching my kids grow up,” he says. "These parents are realizing that their kid is changing. That's difficult. But it is a part of life." For more from the director, head to USA Today.

MacLachlan was last seen in Breathe In and has been appearing in Season 2 of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s also attached to reprise his role as Agent Dale Cooper in the new planned series of Twin Peaks, due in 2016. Lane will be seen in Trumbo next year and returns to the DC universe as Martha Kent in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, also in 2016. Inside Out arrives here on July 24, but the trailer will go online Wednesday.

Gina Carano Set For Kickboxer

Gina Carano Set For Kickboxer

She'll be part of the tough cast

Gina-Carano-Kickboxer

Kickboxer remake director John Stockwell recently scored a big get, as Jean-Claude Van Damme agreed to step in and take on the role of a martial arts mentor in the new take on one of the films that launched his career. Stockwell is now adding Gina Carano into the mix.

Carano will play a fight promoter, though, her UFC skills mean she’ll fit right in to a cast that already includes Van Damme, stuntman and actor Alain Moussi, former WWE wrestler/Guardians Of The Galaxy actor Dave Bautista and Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s Georges St. Pierre. Sara Malakul Lane has also joined the cast as the woman who catches Moussi’s eye.

Moussi takes over the leading mantle as Kurt Sloan, a talented fighter who heads to Thailand intending to learn the secrets of advanced kickboxing mostly so he can confront Tong Po (Bautista), the man who killed his brother. Van Damme is Master Chow, who teaches Sloan what he needs to know.

The film represents a reunion for Stockwell and Carano, who worked together on this year’s In The Blood. Carano will next be seen in hijack thriller Bus 657, which also features Bautista.

Edgar Ramirez Finds Joy

Edgar Ramirez Finds Joy

He's joining David O. Russell's new film

Edgar-Ramirez-Joy

Though he’s largely attempting to reassemble the Silver Linings Playbook ensemble for his next film, Joy, David O. Russell is open to people he hasn’t worked with before. He’s just cast Edgar Ramirez in a key role.

Jennifer Lawrence is starring as real-life inventor Joy Mangano, a struggling single mother with three kids to support who has spent most of her life tinkering with gadgets she hopes will help make money. She hit it big with the Miracle Mop, which turned her into a fixture on the Home Shopping Network and made her a fortune.

Ramirez is set to play her charming but untrustworthy husband, a man she eventually divorces. Russell already also has Robert De Niro – a veteran of Silver Linings and American Hustle – on as Joy’s father.

The director has also re-written a script that originated with Bridesmaids’ Annie Mumolo, and is looking to start shooting this February. Ramirez was last seen in horror thriller Deliver Us From Evil and has recently worked on the Point Break remake, taking over Patrick Swayze’s iconic role of Bodhi. He’ll also appear in boxing biopic Hands Of Stone.

Natalie Portman In Talks For Steve Jobs Film

Natalie Portman In Talks For Steve Jobs Film

UPDATE: She's passed on the female lead role

Natalie-Portman-In-Talks-Steve-Jobs-Film

UPDATE: Clearly, the film still can't catch a casting break as Variety is now reporting that Portman has decided not to take the gig. The hunt for the female lead – assuming Michael Fassbender sticks as Jobs – continues.

The latest attempt to make a biopic of former Apple boss Steve Jobs has seen some ups and downs recently. Despite a proven creative team that includes Aaron Sorkin scripting and Danny Boyle directing, the film has struggled to lock in a leading man and was even put into turnaround by its original studio, Sony. Now, with the backing of Universal, it appears to be back on track and Natalie Portman has entered talks for a role.

Nothing is known about which character she might play, though Deadline reports it’s a major role. Boyle has Michael Fassbender in talks to play Jobs, while Seth Rogen is circling the role of Steve Wozniak, one of Jobs’ key early collaborators and the co-founder of Apple.

Sorkin’s script adapts Walter Isaacson’s bestselling authorised biography of the man, and focuses on three big moments in Jobs’ corporate life: the launch of the Mac; NeXT (which was introduced after he was removed from the company); and the iPod, launched after his triumphant return. Boyle wants to start shooting next year.

Portman is editing her directorial debut, A Tale Of Love And Darkness, and has several films on the way including Jane Got A Gun and Terrence Malick’s Knight Of Cups.

Marvel Isn't Nearly As Strict About The Long Term Outline As We Thought

Marvel Studios has shocked the world with the effectiveness of their "shared universe" franchise planning. With each new story produced it feels like they are not only adding to a bigger whole, but also making steps towards a predetermined future. In order to get this done, one would think that there's a certain rigidity to the creative process, but the truth is that's not necessarily the case. Speaking with Comic Book Resources about shared universes being the most popular trend in modern Hollywood - something that he very recently criticized - Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has noted ...
