She recently signed on as part of the cast for tech thriller The Circle, but Karen Gillan still has smaller indies in her heart. The actress is now in talks to star in Dominic Cooke’s film directing debut Country Music.
If she makes a deal, she’ll be playing a singer who hails from Glasgow but has a dream of making it to the stage in Nashville, the spiritual home of country warblers of all stripes. Of course, she’ll have to face some challenges along the way, but probably not encountering talking raccoons.
Nicole Taylor wrote the script for the film, which has the backing of the BFI, Creative Scotland and Film4, plus a co-producer in Faye Ward, who also worked on this week’s Suffragette.
Gillan remains as busy as ever, with roles in the aforementioned The Circle alongside Emma Watson, Tom Hanks and John Boyega, Adam McKay’s financial drama The Big Short, which sees her sharing screen real estate with Christian Bale and Steve Carell, and vengeful Western In A Valley Of Violence, which also features John Travolta and Ethan Hawke. She’s also scheduled to return as Nebula for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, which James Gunn is preparing to shoot in Atlanta in the coming months.
