Drew Goddard Says MGM Wants A Cabin In The Woods Sequel

Drew Goddard Says MGM Wants A Cabin In The Woods Sequel

But there are no ideas for more horror yet

The Martian's writer Drew Goddard has been hitting the promotional trail for it and, like quote-factory Ridley Scott, he’s also been asked about other projects he either has or could be attached to. He gave a surprising answer to a question about his directorial debut, The Cabin In The Woods: it seems MGM wants to go back to the cabin.

Talking with Den Of Geek, Goddard had this to say about the studio’s seeming excitement for more of the horror-tweaking concept that he and Joss Whedon came up with, wrote and produced together: "the studio wants to do it. They've come to us."

There’s just one small matter to be solved. How do you make a sequel to a film that – without getting into spoilers – would seem to rule out any follow-ups? The story of a group of unwary friends headed to a spooky cabin in the woods, only to encounter all manner of terrors, ended, shall we say, definitively. Still, never say never…

"The funny part is, I don't think we planned that movie to do a sequel, you know?" Goddard continues. "But that being said, the fun thing about Cabin is, the rules are pretty crazy. We get away with a lot of crazy stuff. So, I'm sure we could figure it out if we got inspired to. I know Joss and I both feel like we don't want to tarnish what we did with the first one. With a sequel, we'd only do it if it made us laugh hard enough, I suppose." So far, he claims neither he nor Whedon have come up with such an idea. But as opposed to movies where there are big online campaigns for sequels, this one would seem to have a more concrete support system, albeit no forward momentum right now.
