Empire Podcast 179: Jason Clarke, Laurence Rickard and Simon Farnaby

Empire Podcast 179: Jason Clarke, Laurence Rickard and Simon Farnaby

The podteam talk to the stars of Everest and Bill

The picture above is not a still from Everest, this is just the lengths rising talents will travel to appear on the Empire podcast. Braving the crevices and treacherous climes of our frosty audio booth this week is the star of said action/adventure movie, not to mention Terminator Genisys and Zero Dark Thirty, Jason Clarke.

The Aussie actor has a burgeoning reputation and is one of the standouts in Baltasar Kormákur's high-altitude epic. We chatted to him about all things mountain-based and let Bill stars Simon Farnaby and Laurence Rickard take care of all ruff-wearing sea level chitchat. The pair had much to say about their Shakespearean comedy - helpful, the latter also co-wrote it - and augmented it with some humour badinage about nicknames and time-travel. Anyone who doesn't tune into this one is a gorbellied bat-fowling knave. So there.

Exclusive Empire Spectre Cover Revealed

Exclusive Empire Spectre Cover Revealed

Christoph comes but once a year

The new issue of Empire is guest edited by Sam Mendes, the director of Spectre. This is, needless to say, very exciting news and brings some very obvious benefits. And we're not talking about his generous approval of our holiday requests. No, the new boss has delivered into readers' laps the most spectacular array of scoops, new looks and access to his 24th instalment of the mighty 007 franchise. It also has a cover - revealed exclusively below - that sets the movie's two adversaries check-by-jowl in a face-off for the ages.

As revealed earlier in the week, the issue also offers some incredible access to Mendes's book of contacts. There are interviews with Spielberg, Joss Whedon and David Fincher - conducted by the editor himself, no less - as well as an in-depth look back at some of the other highlights on the editor's CV, including American Beauty, and a look at the unheralded but spectacular work of practical effects whizz Chris Corbould.

Plenty, in other words, for fans of James Bond lovers and 007-agnostics alike. There's also an exclusive chat with Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks about their latest collaboration, Bridge Of Spies, a chat with Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy, news, reviews and all the latest Hollywood insights you need to know about.

Pick up the new issue of Empire from all good hollowed-out-volcano-based newsagents from October 24 or click here to subscribe and save yourself a trip on Little Nellie.

More Cast For Game Of Thrones' 6th Season

More Cast For Game Of Thrones' 6th Season

James Faulkner and Samantha Spiro head for Westeros

When Ian McShane was cast in an unspecified secret role in Game Of Thrones' sixth season last month, there was some speculation that he might be playing Randyll Tarly, Samwell's father. Well speculate on, since Randyll Tarly has now been officially cast, as have Melessa and Talla.

James Faulkner will be the Tarly paterfamilas, joining Game Of Thrones following stints on Downton Abbey and Da Vinci's Demons. Samantha Spiro, who'll be in the BBC's London Spy next month, is Sam's mother Melessa Tarly. And Sam's sister Talla will be played by Rebecca Benson. Freddie Stroma had already been cast as Dickon.

They're just the latest additions to the cast for the new season, which, along with McShane, includes Pilou Asbæk, Max von Sydow and Richard E. Grant. Grant, like McShane, hasn't had his character officially revealed yet, although the scuttlebut is that he's Izembaro The Great, King Of The Mummers.

The show will, as in recent years, be back in April on HBO and Sky Atlantic, with the story unfolding further ahead of the books than ever...
