Ato Essandoh On For The New Bourne Film

Ato Essandoh On For The New Bourne Film

The Copper co-star will join Matt Damon in the latest installment

Ato-Essandoah-New-Bourne

The film is already in production, but we still don’t know that much about the new Bourne outing, beyond the fact that Matt Damon is back as the titular hero surrounded by a crop of faces both new and old. And while we don’t know what he’ll be up to, we do know that Copper’s Ato Essandoh has landed a role in the film.

Paul Greengrass is back as the director once again, having co-written the script with Christopher Rouse. The action will pick up a few years after Damon’s Jason Bourne went underground and the first set pic (put online by producer Frank Marshall) showed he’s been keeping himself in fighting shape.

Besides Julia Stiles’ return as Nicky Parsons, the cast also includes Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones and Vincent Cassel, with Essandoh joining the ranks. Will he be a friend to Bourne? Or a thorn in his side? We’ll have to wait and see. Essandoh, who also appeared in Django Unchained, will also be seen in HBO drama Vinyl, which will be on screens next year. The new Bourne is targeting a July 29 release date.

Liam Neeson Will Be The Revenger

Liam Neeson Will Be The Revenger

In a new action comedy for Ruben Fleischer

Liam-Neeson-Revenger

We have now, apparently, reached the stage of Liam Neeson’s action career where he’s ready to take spoofing it to the next natural stage – an entire action comedy on the big screen. All right, so we don’t know for sure that it will be exactly that, but The Revenger sounds like it could be.

Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer has come aboard to direct the film for Universal, based on Thomas Lemmon and Robert Ben Garant’s script. Little is known about the screenplay besides the name, but given that it comes from the men behind the first two Night At The Museum films, Hell Baby and Balls Of Fury, expect silliness.

Neeson has shown he’s more than willing to be funny in the past, most famously still in Extras, but also in the likes of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, The Lego Movie and Non-Stop. Fleischer, meanwhile as the zombie action comedy on his CV alongside 30 Minutes Or Less and Gangster Squad, with the last two failing to quite live up to his big break. So he could definitely do with a comedy success. This one is still in development, so there’s no news on when it might start shooting.

Elizabeth Banks In Talks To Direct A New Charlie's Angels

Elizabeth Banks In Talks To Direct A New Charlie's Angels

Sony wants to launch a fresh franchise

Elizabeth-Banks-Charlies-Angeles

Despite its history as a cult favourite TV show, Charlie’s Angels was only able to spawn two movies of varying entertainment value and a more recent small screen re-interpretation that struggled for four episodes before being abruptly cancelled. Sony is looking to launch a new cinematic franchise with Pitch Perfect 2’s Elizabeth Banks in talks to direct

Banks, who scored the director’s chair of the a capella sequel after producing and appearing in the first, is in demand thanks to the film’s huge success at the box office (try $285 million worldwide on a $30 million budget). She’s already attached to make an adaptation of Victoria Aveyard’s novel Red Queen for Universal, and the studio would likely offer her first refusal on directing Pitch Perfect 3, now in development.

Assuming she makes a deal to direct Charlie’s Angels, she’ll be part of the team coming up with another new take on the concept of three female detectives working for a mysterious, anonymous benefactor who communicated via speaker phone and an assistant named Bosley. Banks seems like she'd be the right person for the job, able to find a balance between comedy and action, and providing an even better spin on what should be three leading female roles. The new film would take over from the last two, which starred Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz.

Acting-wise, Banks will be back on our screens with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, which is out on November 20.

Frances O'Connor Joins The Conjuring 2

Frances O'Connor Joins The Conjuring 2

She'll be haunted by The Enfield Poltergeist

Frances-O-Connor-Conjuring-Sequel

He’s getting ready to shoot The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist (assuming it doesn’t opt for a shorter name before release), and James Wan is busy building up the cast around returning veterans Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. Frances O’Connor is the latest addition to the line-up.

Aside from the fact that the film sees paranormal investigators Lorraine (Farmiga) and Ed Warren (Wilson) heading to the wilds of, er, Greater London to investigate another case of a haunting involving a family, not much has been revealed about the plot. But now we know O’Connor is playing the mother of a girl being troubled by terrifying spooks and in need of some help.

Wan is looking to repeat the success of the 2013 hit (and its 2014 prequel Annabelle), flying to shoot some locations in the UK, but shooting the majority of the movie in Burbank. He had input on the script by Chad and Carey Hayes, before handing it off for extra work by David Leslie Johnson. It’ll kick off production later this month.

O’Connor has most recently been working on TV in shows such as Mr. Selfridge, Once Upon A Time and The Missing.

Jenny Slate Added To Gifted

Jenny-Slate-Gifted

We already know that Chris Evans will swap his shield and superpowers for something a little more ordinary in Mark Webb’s Gifted. Now Jenny Slate, Octavia Spencer, Lindsay Duncan and newcomer McKenna Grace will join him in the film.

Gifted, written by Tom Flynn, is a drama about Frank Adler, a deliberate underachiever, who is raising his niece Mary (Grace), in rural Florida.  When he enrols her in school for the first time, she is labelled as gifted. All Frank wants is for Mary to have a normal life, but standing in his way is her mother Evelyn (Slate), who wants to exploit her abilities. So being proactive for once, he sues to win custody of the girl. Webb is looking to have that one shooting in the coming months.

Slate, who scored praise for her performance in Obvious Child, has been working steadily recently. She’s currently filming a role in Brain On Fire opposite Chloe Grace Moretz and will be seen in indies My Blind Brother and Joshy. Next year we’ll also hear her as the voice of Gidget in The Secret Life Of Pets, the next ‘toon from the Illumination team, set to arrive on June 24.
