New Spectre TV Spot

New Spectre TV Spot

30 seconds in the life of an assassin

It's getting closer now. There are 46 days until the release of Spectre, and should your attention have wandered, here's 30 seconds of new TV spot to bring your focus back.

The story as we know it so far? As per the most recent official synopsis, a cryptic message from the past sends James Bond on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra, the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal.  Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and uncovers the existence of the sinister organisation known as SPECTRE.

Meanwhile back in London, Max Denbigh, the new head of the Centre for National Security, questions Bond’s actions and challenges the relevance of MI6, led by M. Bond covertly enlists Moneypenny and Q to help him seek out Madeleine Swann, the daughter of his old nemesis Mr White, who may hold the clue to untangling the web of SPECTRE. As the daughter of an assassin, she understands Bond in a way most others cannot.

As Bond ventures towards the heart of SPECTRE, he learns of a chilling connection between himself and the enemy he seeks.

With Sam Mendes back directing a script that has been written by John Logan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, Spectre sees Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw and Naomie Harris, as Bond, M, Q and Moneypenny respectively, with new recruits Christoph Waltz as the enigmatic Oberhauser, Dave Bautista as Mr. Hinx, Monica Bellucci as Lucia, Lea Seydoux as Madelaine, Stephanie Sigman as Estrella and Andrew Scott as Denbigh. It’ll hit UK screens – include the big IMAX ones – on October 26 before heading across the pond and elsewhere on November 6. Head here for the full trailer. And head here for Empire's full and always updated briefing on all things Spectre.

New Trailer For The Hallow Creeps In

New Trailer For The Hallow Creeps In

'Things here go bump in the night...'

Still enjoying its long festival rollout where it's picking up excellent word-of-mouth, Corin Hardy's The Hallow next plays at Manchester's GrimmFest on October 1. But its US theatrical and VOD release is also approaching, and with that, here's a new trailer from across the Atlantic. It's pretty similar to the one we showed you before, but slightly ups the violence and shows us the creatures (or one of them, at least)...

Dedicated to practical-FX monster luminaries like Ray Harryhausen, Dick Smith and Stan Winston, The Hallow follows conservationist Joseph Mawle, his wife (Drag Me To Hell’s Bojana Novakovic) and their wee bairn to a remote mill in the Irish countryside. There, they unwittingly disturb the local nastie. “Fairies, banshees, baby stealers...” as MIchael Smiley warns them.

It gets its full release in the UK on November 13, a week later than the States' November 6.

First Still From Their Finest Hour And A Half Arrives

First Still From Their Finest Hour And A Half Arrives

As Jack Huston and Jake Lacey join the ensemble cast

We already knew that Sam Clafin was reuiniting with his Riot Club director Lone Scherfig for Their Finest Hour And A Half. In the year since that announcement the cast has grown exponentially, with Gemma Arterton and Bill Nighy - pictured below in the first official image from the film - at the top of the bill. Richard E. Grant, Helen McRory, Eddie Marsan, Rachel Stirling and Henry Goodman are all also signed up for the WWII-era comedy. And the most recent additions to the ensemble are Jack Huston and Jake Lacey.

Based on the novel by Lissa Evans, the film tells the comical story of a disparate group of people brought together in Norfolk to make a British propaganda film. A forgotten actor from the silent movie age, an advertising copywriter from the Ministry of Information, a Madame Tussauds' costumier and a caterer-turned-military advisor are all pitched in to craft the unlikely narrative of two women in a rowing boat who head off on a rescue mission to Dunkirk. They initially dislike each other, of course, but rally round in the cause of wartime morale.

All the pleasing hallmarks of an Ealing comedy there (plus something of the vibe of Dad's Army, which also, in its new guise, stars Nighy). The press release describes it as "A witty, warm-hearted and moving portrayal of a young woman screenwriter finding her way in matters of life, death and the heart, combining the quick-fire repartee of a screwball battle of the sexes infused with the reality of filmmaking under threat of invasion and London in the Blitz."

Their Finest Hour And A Half comes courtesy of the BBC and Stephen Woolley (Carol, Made in Dagenham) and Amanda Posey (Brooklyn, An Education). The screenplay is by Gaby Chiappe (Lark Rise To Candleford), and shooting is underway now for a release next year.
