Christopher Nolan's Next Film Set For 2017

Christopher Nolan's Next Film Set For 2017

As usual, nobody knows anything else

Warner Bros. have yet to reveal a title, cast or synopsis, but there's now at least a release date for Christopher Nolan's next film. To nobody's surprise it's the top secretest of top secret projects, but whatever it is, it'll be out on July 21, 2017.

That's essentially it, since no one knows anything else. Oh, apart from the name of the screenwriter. It's, er, Christopher Nolan. The news of the release date comes a month or so after reports that Nolan had finished a "comprehensive draft" of the screenplay, which is thought to be an original (ie. not adapted from a novel or based on an existing property).

Arriving on July 21, 2017 means that Nolan 10 shares a date with Pitch Perfect 3 and Luc Besson's Valerian. Besson has described Valerian as "The Fifth Element Times Ten". So we can perhaps infer from that that Nolan's next film isn't a sci-fi, since it's unlikely that two such films would go head-to-head the same weekend.

That date is also the weekend in between the third Planet Of The Apes (after Rise and Dawn) and the new Marvel/Sony Spider-Man re-reboot. July 2017 is looking busy.

More news as we get it, obviously. Michael Caine? Hans Zimmer? Get your Nolan bingo cards ready.

Michael Fassbender Considering The Snowman

Michael Fassbender Considering The Snowman

The Jo Nesbø adaptation may have a star

Michael-Fassbender-Snowman

Michael Fassbender been receiving lots of plaudits for his portrayal of Steve Jobs in, oh that film that Danny Boyle directed about Apple’s former boss… whatever it’s called. But he already has one eye on a potential future gig – as Fassbender is in talks to star in the adaptation of Jo Nesbø’s The Snowman

Cast thoughts of sweet frosty folk coming to life one winter’s night, though. This is adapted from one of Nesbø’s bestselling series of Harry Hole novels. The Oslo cop, a boozy, fags-and-fatalism maverick in the best traditions of movie ‘tecs like Jake Gittes and Popeye Doyle, is in his early ‘40s in the books and an outsider in his own department. In the story, he’s investigating a missing persons case launched when a woman’s pink scarf is found wrapped around the neck of an ominous-looking snowman.

Working Title has been trying to get this one made for a while, and Martin Scorsese was attached to direct in the past. He’s still named as an executive producer alongside Nesbø himself, with Thomas Alfredson taking up the megaphone, working from an adaptation by Soren Sveistrup.

Fassbender will be back on our screens on October 2 with Macbeth. Steve Jobs (ah! That’s the title!) follows on November 13, and X-Men: Apocalypse will be with us on May 19 next year.
