First Trailer For Our Brand Is Crisis

First Trailer For Our Brand Is Crisis

Sandra Bullock's got (political) game

The last time Sandra Bullock collaborated with George Clooney, they were up in space for Gravity. For Our Brand Is Crisis, Clooney’s staying behind the camera as a producer, and Bullock starring as a political strategist brought in to help a flailing South American campaign. Check out the first trailer below.

Bullock stars as “Calamity” Jane Bodine, a smart, savvy strategist who is nevertheless reeling from a scandal that gave her the nickname and shook her confidence. She’s offered the chance at a comeback by working on the campaign for Bolivian presidential candidate Pedro Gallo (Joaquim de Almeida), who is flagging in the polls, seen as out of touch and elitist.

But when Jane arrives in the country, she discovers that her professional nemesis, Pat Candy (Billy Bob Thornton) is coaching the opposition. That, though, just gives her the fire to keep going and try to beat him at last... Which will not be an easy proposition...

Loosely inspired by Rachel Boynton’s 2005 documentary of the same name, the satirical drama features a script by Peter Straughan, David Gordon Green directing and Anthony Mackie, Zoe Kazan, Scoot McNairy and Ann Dowd also in the cast, the film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this week ahead of an October 30 US release. There’s no assigned UK date yet, but expect it in 2016.

First Images From Michael Dougherty's Krampus

First Images From Michael Dougherty's Krampus

Adam Scott and more face Christmas terror

Krampus-1

It’s September, so of course shops have had Christmas items on the shelves for a while. The perfect time, then, for the first look at a film based on an ancient seasonal myth. Hang your stockings for images from Trick ‘r Treat director Michael Dougherty’s new stab at holiday horror, Krampus.

The film, which stars Adam Scott, Emjay Anthony, Toni Collette, David Koechner and Fargo’s Allison Tolman, follows Max (Anthony), a kid around the age when Santa’s magic still has a grip on the imagination, but only just. When his dysfunctional family gathers for Christmas, he’s given even more reason to stop believing, but then a blizzard and a power outage hit their neighbourhood, which signals that Krampus and his nasty hench-creatures are on their way, looking to punish those who’ve ended up on the naughty list. And yes, it comes screaming straight out of actual lore. “It’s one thing to be terrified or enthralled when you’re watching a film,” the director tells USA Today. “To then leave the cinema and realize it’s based on real myths and legends only makes it sink in even deeper.”

Krampus-2

Just don’t go thinking this is your basic horror bogeyman. “He’s not Freddy or Jason or Leatherface, this unstoppable monster that kicks down your door and rampages and grabs you,” he says. “If you study the myth, there’s something darkly playful about him. He’s having a good time doing what he does and he enjoys the cat-and-mouse aspect of it.”

Hopefully that tone will translate to the movie. Krampus haunts both US cinemas and our screens on December 4. We'd expect a trailer this week or thereabouts, but for more images, head to USA Today’s site.

Richard E. Grant Joins Game Of Thrones

Richard E. Grant Joins Game Of Thrones

In a mysterious role...

Richard-E-Grant-Game-Of-Thrones

Acclaimed actor, storyteller and occasional Empire pod-guest Richard E. Grant is apparently lending his abilities to another genre project. According to a mention let slip by his talent agency ARG (and picked up on by Variety before it was removed and those responsible posted to The Wall), he’ll be part of the cast for Game Of Thrones next season

As to what he’ll be playing, that’s anyone’s guess at this point as the news has yet to be officially confirmed and his role is being kept quiet for now. It does appear, however, that he’ll be in several episodes.

He’s just the latest addition to the cast for the new season, joining the likes of Danish thesp Pilou Asbæk, Ian McShane, Max von Sydow and Freddie Stroma, who will – spoiler alert in case you don’t want to know – be playing Dickon Tarly, younger brother to Sam.

The show will, as in recent years, be back in April on HBO and Sky Atlantic, with the story unfolding further ahead of the books. As for Grant, he’ll be seen on ITV’s new version of Jekyll & Hyde, which should be on screens in the next couple of months.

Jamie Foxx In Talks For Edgar Wright's Baby Driver

Jamie Foxx In Talks For Edgar Wright's Baby Driver

He could be a crime boss

Jamie-Foxx-in-talks-Baby-Driver

Having found his Baby Driver leads in Ansel Elgort and Lily James, Edgar Wright has looked for someone to bring a little menace into their lives. Jamie Foxx is now in talks to do just that

Elgort is playing a talented young getaway driver who uses his personal soundtrack to be the best in the business. But then a doomed heist throws a spanner into the works of his life, putting him at risk as well as the people he loves. Foxx, assuming he locks in the role, will be a crime boss who coerces Elgort to work for him. We’re guessing he won’t be best pleased when things go wrong.

This is a project that Wright has been working on for years, tooling on the script in between other projects. He’s now gearing up to direct for Working Title, MRC and Sony’s TriStar, with the latter company handling distribution. The film should be in cinemas in March 2017.

Foxx, last seen warbling in Annie, will pop up in action thriller Sleepless Night, which is now shooting. He’s also attached to another thriller, crime pic Blink.
