New Leatherface Poster Steps Online

New Leatherface Poster Steps Online

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre begins again

Nine years ago Jonathan Liebesman directed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. Now that prequel to the remake is being overwritten by another Texas Chainsaw origin story. Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo are behind the cameras this time, and the first poster for Leatherface has just arrived. Reflect on it below.

Like Liebesman's film, the new Leatherface is following the hulking killer's early years in the 1970s, although in this case we'll find him in his teens before he dons the mask and picks up the saw. The hook for the plot is Leatherface escaping from a mental institution along with three other inmates, dragging a kidnapped nurse along with them for "the road trip from Hell".

Sam Strike, Sam Coleman, James Bloor and Jessica Madsen are the escapees, with Vanessa Grasse the nurse. Stephen Dorff plays the deranged Texas lawman chasing them, and Lili Taylor is Leatherface's mom, Vera Sawyer.

The producing roster (Christa Campbell, Lati Grobman, Carl Mazzocone, Avi Lerner) is the same as 2013's awful rebootquel Texas Chainsaw 3D. But Maury and Bustillo previously directed Inside, which makes Leatherface a more interesting prospect than it might have been. The up-and-coming Seth M. Sherwood wrote the screenplay, and the eighth Texas Chainsaw is now at the post-production stage for an expected release next year.

Bill Cosby has at least one person in his camp: fellow comedian Damon Wayans.

While doing a radio interview for Power 105.1 on Friday, Wayans went on a bitter, misogynistic rant about the dozens of women who have accused Cosby of sexual assault.

"I don't believe that he was raping," Wayans, 55, said.

Dakota Johnson Talks Fifty Shades Darker

Dakota Johnson Talks Fifty Shades Darker

Exclusive: ''It’s quite exciting...''

Dakota-Johnson-On-fifty-shades

Currently attending the Venice Film Festival to promote both gangster drama Black Mass and mystery A Bigger Splash, Dakota Johnson sat down with Empire and also discussed another role, playing Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades Of Grey sequel Fifty Shades Darker.

With the first film a success, Universal is naturally pushing ahead with the follow-up. But it has to do so without director Sam Taylor-Johnson, who opted not to return. Confidence's James Foley recently made a deal to direct the sequel, and his leading lady seems to be ready to get back into the world of Anastasia and her emotionally distant paramour, Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan).

“It’s quite exciting," she says. “There was a moment of being afraid, because I didn’t know what it was going to be like. I had an experience with Sam [Taylor-Johnson] and then that all went away. Now I’m excited. I think James is a talented filmmaker. How often do you get to reconvene with the same people and have a different spin?”

Asked whether she’s met him and if his approach will be different from Taylor-Johnson’s, the actress demurred. “I have. You’ll just have to see when the movie comes out…”

Fifty Shades Darker, which will be written by Niall Leonard (husband of the books’ author E.L. James), is now targeting a February 10, 2017 release, with the third film, Fifty Shades Freed, eyeing a February 9, 2018 arrival. Black Mass will be out here on November 27, while A Bigger Splash will screen as part of the BFI London Film Festival this October and should be on UK screens on February 12.

Frank Marshall Producing Horror Thriller Cropsey

Frank Marshall Producing Horror Thriller Cropsey

DreamWorks wants a blend of scares and laughs

Frank-Marshall-Cropsey

It’s fair to say that Frank Marshall has, as a producer, had a pretty good summer, what with overseeing the success of Jurassic World. He’s as busy as ever, and is now developing a horror thriller called Cropsey for DreamWorks.

The studio is locking down a deal to by the pitch from writers Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, who are set to stay aboard and work on the actual script. The concept finds a group of teenagers at a summer camp that is haunted by an urban legend dating back to Colonial times. Scares at a summer camp, eh? That never happens in horror.

But though the writers have worked on movies such as The Autopsy Of Jane Doe (currently in post-production) and did a draft on the latest reboot of Friday The 13th, the tone this time is said to be more a blend of comedy and horror, along the lines of Gremlins. No director or cast is attached yet, as it’s still at an early stage.

Marshall has the usual big batch of movies at various stages, including Steven Spielberg’s The BFG, Assassin’s Creed, the new Bourne sequel with Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass back on board and, of course, the next Jurassic World outing, due in 2018.

Kate Hudson Joins Kung Fu Panda 3

Kate Hudson Joins Kung Fu Panda 3

She'll replace Rebel Wilson

Kate-Hudson-Kung-Fu-Panda-3

There’s a late-schedule change happening behind the scenes for DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 3. Despite being a few months before release, the filmmakers are replacing Rebel Wilson with Kate Hudson.

Of course, this being an animated adventure, it’s slightly easier than switching out an entire live-action performance, but still requires new recording sessions and altering the animation of the Mei Mei character to fit the new work by Hudson. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the change has happened because the production schedule extended, meaning it clashed with other work Wilson had to do.

The new movie’s story finds Jack Black’s Po confronting something he never thought possible – the return of his long-lost father, Li Shan (Bryan Cranston), though our hero doesn’t immediately twig that it’s his pops.

Still, the happy family reunion means that he is able to visit a secret panda paradise where many of his species are still living happily, including Mei Mei, who falls for our hero. But his joy is short-lived, as the supernatural villain Kai is soon sweeping across China, taking out the kung fu masters as he goes. Po is faced with the ultimate challenge: training up a village full of his laidback, clumsy, fun-loving panda brethren to become a fighting unit to take on the new threat.

With Jennifer Yuh Nelson once more in the director’s chair and Alessandro Carloni as co-director, Kung Fu Panda 3 sees the return of the regular voice cast including Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, David Cross and James Hong. It’ll hit our cinemas on March 18. Check out the teaser below.
