Westworld Teaser Arrives Online

Westworld Teaser Arrives Online

'Have you ever questioned the nature of your reality?'

We’ve had images from the new version of Westworld overseen by executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, but HBO has decided to show off a tantalising short trailer for the series. Saddle up and take a look.

Loosely based on the 1973 film written and directed by Michael Crichton two decades before he wrote Jurassic Park, the series will expand upon the world of a theme park for adults where they can live out their wildest desires without consequences. At least, until something happens with the artificial life forms that inhabit the place...

Obviously the series has both the scope and time to be able to explore the various dramas of Westworld to a much deeper degree, especially the existential crises of the "characters" created to service visitors. And from the looks of the initial images and now this teaser trailer, it boasts some stunning visuals, with wide vistas and painstakingly realised Western towns. Not to mention a cast full of talented folk such as Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Thandie Newton, Evan Rachel Wood, Miranda Otto, James Marsden and Jeffrey Wright.

The teaser carries no actual date, but confirms the 2016 launch for the show, which HBO is surely hoping can generate the same level of interest as Game Of Thrones. It should be on Sky over here shortly after its American launch, if it follows the Thrones model.

First Trailer For Fathers And Daughters

First Trailer For Fathers And Daughters

Russell Crowe has family issues

Director Gabriele Muccino often plays with the themes of family struggles in his movies, and Fathers And Daughters looks to explore another take on dealing with those closest to you – or not, in some cases. The first trailer for the drama has arrived.

The film, written by Brad Desch, finds Russell Crowe as a successful, widowed writer caring for his young daughter Katie (Kylie Rogers). Initially it seems they have a strong bond, but when he falls seriously ill and has to send the girl to live with family (Bruce Greenwood and Diane Kruger), their connection is severely tested.

Running parallel to that is the story of the grown Katie (Amanda Seyfried), who is still dealing with the fallout from her troubled childhood, and has problems maintaining relationships. Which is where Aaron Paul’s Cameron comes in: he’s a fan of her dad’s writing and falls for Katie, but their love match is seemingly doomed to fail.

There’s always a worry a film like this could sink into melodrama, particularly given the pitfalls of patent/child bonding, illness and romantic issues, but hopefully Muccino and his cast, which also includes Jane Fonda, Octavia Spencer, Janet McTeer and Quvenzhane Wallis, will steer clear of the big ones. The film has release dates set for several European countries, but has yet to announce anything for the US or over here.

Don't Worry, Motherhood (and Hulu) Won't Change The Mindy Project Too Much

The Mindy Project has been through a lot of changes over the past four seasons, but Mindy Lahiri's charming mix of confidence, self-deprecation and superficiality isn't going anywhere.

"We always say the character can only change 5 percent at a time," creator and star Mindy Kaling told reporters at

In the Empire finale, fans saw a darker side of Jamal (Jussie Smollett) when he dangled Beretti off a balcony. But that was only the beginning.

This season, Empire will explore more of Jamal's dark side and "see what that means and how he grapples with it," according to showrunner Ilene Chaiken. "It

Greta Gerwig Readying Directorial Debut Lady Bird

Greta Gerwig Readying Directorial Debut Lady Bird

She's looking to start shooting in March

Greta-Gerwig-directing-Lady-Bird

Greta Gerwig has been expanding her influence on her films for a few years now, adding writer to her credits for several movies since 2008’s Nights And Weekends and also working occasionally as a producer. Now she’ll be calling the shots for a film, aiming to start making Lady Bird next year.

Unlike some other actors-turned-directors, Gerwig doesn’t apparently plan to appear in this one (though she may end up filling a role if needed). The details on Lady Bird are scarce, but apparently it involves a young woman deciding to move from Sacramento (the capital of California, trivia fans), and chronicling her last year in the city.

With the cameras due to roll in March, Gerwig has IAC Films’ backing and Scott Rudin aboard to produce alongside Eli Bush and Evelyn O’Neill. Gerwig has worked a lot alongside real-life partner Noah Baumbach, co-writing the likes of Frances Ha, and Mistress America, which arrives here on August 14. She’ll also be seen in Maggie’s Plan and Weiner-Dog, and is getting set to work on Mike Mills’ new film, 20th Century Women alongside Elle Fanning and Annette Bening.
