Louis C.K. Says I'm A Cop

Louis C.K. Says I'm A Cop

He's directing and starring in the indie comedy

Louis-CK-I'm-A-Cop

He’s been enjoying great success as writer/director/producer star on his self-titled, semi-autobiographical TV series Louie, but Louis C.K. hasn’t pulled similar duty on the big screen since 2001’s Pootie Tang. And while an argument could be made for that being the main reason (he was removed from the flop comedy during editing), he has at least been involved in other films. Now he’s back both behind and in front of the camera for I’m A Cop.

No, it’s not the lower budget indie-flavoured sequel to last year’s Let’s Be Cops. C.K.’s latest project is the story of a depressed middle-aged volunteer cop (in keeping with the creator’s usual wheelhouse) who lives in the shadow of his mother, a highly decorated officer. When she dies, her legacy pushes him to become a real policeman, something he never intended to be.

Scott Rudin, who is involved with Louie and helps bring the world his stand-up comedy specials, is producing the new movie, but there’s no sign of a schedule yet.

C.K. will next be seen in Trumbo (due January 22 2016) and heard in The Secret Life Of Pets, which arrives on June 24 the same year.

David Fincher's Video Synchronicity Heads For HBO

David Fincher's Video Synchronicity Heads For HBO

A new comedy set in the world of music video production

David-Fincher-new-comedy-series

David Fincher might not have selected (or at least announced) a new film to make just yet, but that’s probably because he’s busy working with HBO. In addition to the American take on Utopia, The Hollywood Reporter has heard that he’s also scored a series order for Video Synchronicity

The series – that’s the working title, by the way – follows Robby, (Charlie Rowe) a young man who drops out of college in 1983 and heads for Hollywood with the hopes of directing a science fiction epic. First he has to navigate the thorny world of his first gig, working in music video production.

According to the trade mag, the show has echoes of Entourage, at least in terms of its planned 30 minute episode length and how it focuses on the players in the exploding world of music videos: the directors, record executives and crew members, with the appropriate lashings of sex, drugs and, if not quite rock ‘n’ roll, then electro pop and soul. Fincher has a teeny bit of experience in the music video world, having won two Grammies for his work. He’s on board as producer and is working on scripts alongside Bob Stephenson, Rich Wilkes, Michael Lehmann and Marcos Siega.

Though a lot of details are under wraps, the cast reportedly also contains Sam Page, Jason Flemyng, Kerry Condon, Elizabeth Lail, Corbin Bernsen and Paz Vega.

This marks the third show Fincher has been involved with, including Netflix’s House Of Cards and the still-embryonic Utopia remake. And that’s not even counting the HBO-based adaptation of James Ellroy’s Shakedown he wants to bring to life alongside the crime writer.

Sela Ward Playing The US President In Independence Day 2

Sela Ward Playing The US President In Independence Day 2

Hail to the chief; watch for the aliens

Sela-Ward-Independence-Day-2

Independence Day had Bill Pullman’s President Thomas J. Whitmore around to rally humanity and fight the aliens. But unless the universe in which the film takes place has very different rules governing US presidents, he can’t still be the leader of the free world 20 years later. And indeed it’s true – Sela Ward will be President Lanford in Independence Day 2.

She’ll be the White House incumbent – we assume the place has been rebuilt since the original attack – for the story of Earth having to fend off the next wave of extra terrestrial invasion attempts. Ward is one of the new faces for the franchise, joining the likes of Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Travis Tope and Joey King, alongside returning cast members Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch and Brent Spiner.

Emmerich has been developing this one for a while now, with the latest script draft by the director, Carter Blanchard, James A. Woods and Nicholas Wright, with assistance from producer Dean Devlin. The cameras should be cranking this month ready for a planned June 24, 2016 release date.

Final San Andreas Trailer Rocks In

Final San Andreas Trailer Rocks In

Dwayne Johnson rolls with it

While Fast & Furious 7 was only able to make limited use of Dwayne Johnson, San Andreas promises a full-on Rocksplosion, with the man-mountain taking on the biggest earthquake ever seen in California and beyond... and Roland Emmerich isn’t to blame this time. Here’s the latest promo for the film.

The movie finds The Rock as Ray Gaines, a talented Los Angeles Fire Department rescue pilot who has just packed daughter Blake (Alexandra Daddario) off to San Francisco when the Big One, a bloomin’ massive earthquake hits California and, if Paul Giamatti’s expert is to be believed, will be felt all across the US of A.

With a whole lot of shaking going on and his spawn in danger, Ray must team up with his ex-wife Emma (Johnson’s Race To Witch Mountain co-star Carla Gugino) and try to find a way to track down their daughter. But the situation may be even worse than he suspects... Yes, the state's protein shake and pizza supply chain has been hugely affected. Oh, and his family's future might be under real threat. This new trailer – probably the last one before the movie actually arrives – digs in a little more deeply to Ray’s fractured family dynamic… At least before the getting back to the disasterthon.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’s Brad Peyton is marshalling the chaos for this one and San Andreas will be out here on May 29.

John Wick 2 Officially A Go

John Wick 2 Officially A Go

The hate-trick, reloaded

John-Wick-Sequel-Active

Good news for all fans of Keanu Reeves kicking, punching and shooting bad guys… While back in February it was announced as in development, the official word has come down the barrel from Lionsgate about a sequel to John Wick.

According to an official statement from the studio, Reeves will be back in action alongside directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski plus screenwriter Derek Kolstad, all reuniting for more mayhem.

Nothing is yet known about what the film will entail, beyond the obvious Keanu versus baddies stuff, but the directors did admit they had plenty of plans afoot back when the original chatter surfaced: “We have ideas for days and without blinking twice we know we can outdo the action from the original,” Stahelski said. “It’s the matter of story and how much you like the character. That’s always the most important. If there’s great action but you have a character that no one likes and doesn’t have charisma you’re not going to watch it. Look at any great action star, whether it’s Harrison Ford or Liam Neeson or Robert Downey Jr., pick a name, you love the guy first. Good action, bad action, you just love them in action. So we want to make sure we have a story and a character that everybody loves and then we’ll dress it with action that we promise will be awesome.”

“With such tremendous fan and critical support for John Wick, we knew that there was still so much more of this story to tell,” says Lionsgate Jason Constantine, President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions. “We are thrilled that Keanu, David and Chad have re-teamed with us and promise to bring audiences even more excitement the second time around.”

There’s no on a release date yet, but Lionsgate will be selling the international distribution rights at Cannes this year.
