First Trailer For Everest

First Trailer For Everest

Welcome to Mount Doom

A disaster movie played out at 35,000 feet, Everest is essentially a true-life Cliffhanger, less the criminal schemes and Craig Fairbrass shouting about soccer. The film’s first trailer lends a sense of nature’s awe to the derring-do of a small band trying to scale the Earth’s highest point. Then things go wrong. Very, very wrong...

Far from keeping its powder dry, Universal’s first trailer plunges us straight into to the freezing chaos of a fateful summit climb. The story is loosely inspired by real events (the 1996 disaster recounted in Jon Krakauer’s Into Thin Air) and sees Jason Clarke leading a party of climbers up the Nepalese monolith as Kiwi mountaineer Rob Hall. Alongside him on the slopes are Josh Brolin as Doctor Beck Weathers, John Hawkes as Doug Hansen and Jake Gyllenhaal as Scott Fischer, the leader of a separate expedition. {Everest Poster} Things are progressing nicely, with most of the climbers reaching the summit, when warnings of dangerous weather conditions begin to come to fruition. Swiftly, it becomes a battle for survival.

The screenplay is penned by Mark Medoff (Children Of A Lesser God) and Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire), with director Baltasar Kormákur overseeing a shoot that took in the Italian Alps, Cinecittà and Pinewood. Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley and Emily Watson round out the cast.

Everest arrives in 3D and on IMAX from September 24, 2015.

New Look At The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2

New Look At The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2

Katniss goes to war

Fin. Sayonara. The end. The Hunger Games is drawing to a close and it’s going out fighting. As this new-look still from the film reveals, Katniss and her fellow rebels are officially tooled up and looking for trouble in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2. Click on the image for a closer look. {The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2} Revealed on Lawrence’s Facebook page - accompanied by the date ‘6.9.15’ to signify Friday’s launch date for the new trailer - the still shows Katniss with co-rebels Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth), Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin) and ex-TV crewman Messalla (Evan Ross).

Following on from the first Mockingjay, the second part of the story finds Katniss and the rebels making the final push against Donald Sutherland's scheming President Snow and the Capitol, with lives on the line and sacrifices to be made. The new movie should boost the action quotient as the bigger beats are to be found lurking towards the end of Suzanne Collins’ third tome.

With Francis Lawrence again directing and his namesake joined on screen by Josh Hutcherson, Julianne Moore, Elizabeth Banks, Willow Shields, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, Jena Malone and more, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 lands in our cinemas on November 20.

Michael Bay To Direct Time Salvager

Michael Bay To Direct Time Salvager

Adapting the sci-fi space thriller

Having laid waste to large swathes of the Earth, Michael Bay now has his eyes set on the stars. According to The Wrap, the filmmaker and producer is planning to adapt interstellar yarn Time Salvager, an as-yet unpublished novel by Wesley Chu.

Time Salvager has the Interstellar-y premise of an Earth partially abandoned by humanity in favour of a future out in the cosmos. The protagonist is a convict called James Griffin-Mars, a man whose suitability for time travel sees him sent on a mission to recover the resources Earth needs to survive. Along the way he meets Elise Kim, a scientist from the past who’s destined to die on an ocean rig. Griffin-Mars brings Elise back to the future, turning them both into fugitives.

If it goes ahead – and there’s the unending Transformers franchise vying for Bay's time and energies – Time Salvager will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian.

Commented Chu on a subsequently deleted blog post: “The speed that Mark, the president of Di Bonaventura, pushed for Paramount to close the option, and the enthusiasm Michael Bay showed in attaching to Time Salvager, has been nothing short of astounding. Often, getting this far in the process can take months, if not years. This went down in a matter of weeks. It’s still going to be an uphill climb but I have complete confidence in the team that Di Bonaventura and Paramount are assembling to usher Time Salvager to the big screen.”

Bay, meanwhile, has Benghazi siege actioner 13 Hours arriving on our screens next year.

Samuel L. Jackson Won't Appear In Captain America: Civil War

Samuel L. Jackson Won't Appear In Captain America 3

But is looking to renew his Marvel deal

The roster for Captain America: Civil War may be more stuffed than Tony Stark’s quip drawer but one character who won’t be appearing is Nick Fury. Samuel L. Jackson revealed to Collider that his man is taking the movie off.

"I’m not in Captain America 3. I can’t figure that out, but I’m not,” he said. "I guess I’m still out there, trying to figure out what happened to S.H.I.E.L.D. and who these other people are.”

His surprise is understandable bearing in mind Fury was such a pivotal figure in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, although it’s possible there just wasn’t space on the call sheet for another player. So far the cast includes Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Mackie, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Chadwick Boseman, Jeremy Renner, William Hurt - aaaaand breathes – Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Martin Freeman and Don Cheadle, with Daniel Brühl on board as the nefarious Baron Zemo.

Jackson does have two MCU projects remaining on his nine-picture deal but is keen to add more to his slate. “Of course [I’m interested in returning],” he stressed. "I’m looking for a contract extension right now. I’m looking to re-up.”

Captain America: Civil War, which has Joe and Anthony Russo returning to their directors’ chairs, is currently shooting for a April 29, 2016 UK release. Jackson is next up reuniting with Quentin Tarantino for The Hateful Eight.

New Mission: Impossible 5 Trailer Is A Go

New Mission: Impossible 5 Trailer Is A Go

“The Syndicate is real…”

The new trailer for Chris McQuarrie’s generously punctuated Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation was deployed (via covert operation) onto the internet this morning and you can watch it below.

Reuniting Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), Benji (Simon Pegg), Brandt (Jeremy Renner) and Luther (Ving Rhames) and introducing Rebecca Ferguson’s Isla to the line-up, Rogue Nation sees the IMF up against the shadowy Syndicate: essentially an evil IMF, hellbent on their destruction. From what we’ve seen of the film so far (including some extended sequences at this year’s CinemaCon), things are shaping up nicely, with the usual mix of playful humour, improbable stunts and Cruise reducing loss adjusters to tears by doing the insane stunts himself.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation is released in the UK on 30 July.
