Zoë Kravitz Starring In Black Belle

Zoë Kravitz Starring In Black Belle

She'll play a gunslinging bounty hunter

Zoe-Kravitz-starring-in-Black-Belle

She was fantastic as Toast, one of the Five Wives in Mad Max: Fury Road, but now Zoë Kravitz is ready to take centre stage as a gun-slinging hero. She’s signed up for the lead in Western drama Black Belle

The film, which is set just after the US Civil War, will find her as a lone bounty hunter who specialises in revenge killing, tracking down and shooting people she’s hired to find. But then a client brings her information about her mother’s murderer, and as she digs into the case, she realises, to her horror, that she knows exactly who is to blame.

Free Ride director Shana Betz is on to call the shots, working from a script by Tasha Huo. The cameras should be cranking, and the bullets flying, this September.

Kravitz, who also appears in the Divergent films, will next be seen in comedy drama Dope, which is out here on September 4. She’ll be back on Divergent duty for Allegiant: Part 1, which is scheduled to arrive next March.

New Trailer For Michael Fassbender's Macbeth

New Trailer For Michael Fassbender's Macbeth

Game of throne...

What trailer through yonder desktop window breaks? Tis Macbeth and... darn, we’ve quoted the wrong Shakespeare play. Not for the first time, Empire wishes it had paid more attention during English class, although Justin Kurzel’s new adaptation of the Scottish play should fill in some of the blanks. Its new trailer is here.

With Michael Fassbender as Macbeth and Marion Cotillard as his scheme wife, Lady Macbeth, there’s intrigue and politicking afoot from the get-go. In the aftermath of a battle between Scottish clan, Macbeth, a general in King Duncan’s (David Thewlis) army, has an encounter with three witches that sends his mind cogs whirling. Aided and abetted by Lady Mac, he sets about on a ruinous course in which his raw ambition leads to murder, misadventure and a lot of Game Of Thrones-style bloodletting.

On the basis of the trailer, these two clips and Kurzel’s bleak debut feature Snowtown, it’s easy to see how the Aussie was deemed a good fit for the material. His research brief involved discovering what was that time like and how brutal it was. “It reminded me a lot of a Western,” he expands in the press notes, "and of a landscape and atmosphere that felt much more dangerous than I’d ever seen before from adaptations of Macbeth”.

Macbeth has had the big-screen treatment on a few occasions in the past, more notably from Orson Welles (1948), Akira Kurosawa (Throne Of Blood in 1957) and Roman Polanski (1971). Find out if Kurzel’s Macbeth will live in that company when it arrives in UK cinemas on October 2 with Paddy Considine, David Thewlis, Sean Harris, Jack Reynor and The Great Gatsby’s Elizabeth Debicki in tow.

New Vacation Trailer Arrives Online

New Vacation Trailer Arrives Online

Griswolds be trippin'

The rude, red band trailer for the new Vacation arrived just last month. But here comes a new promo, laden with fresh footage (and one or two repeated moments), looking to sell you on a new trip with the Griswolds.

This new film picks up the Griswold clan as it has evolved into a grown Rusty’s (Ed Helms) family. He’s settled down, married wife Debbie (Christina Applegate) and has two kids, Kevin (Steele Stebbins) and James (Skyler Gisondo). But though their life seems happy, he’s convinced it’s not all it could be.

So Rusty decides to replicate his father Clark’s (Chevy Chase, who pops up alongside on-screen wife Beverly D’Angelo) attempt to take the family to the Walley World theme park. Of course, they have to drive (in Rusty’s questionable car) and there are misadventures along the way. Including a stop in with Audrey Griswold (Leslie Mann) and her weird sex god husband Stone Crandall (played by a man with some experience in godly roles, Chris Hemsworth).

As far as trailers go, this one aims to bottle the spirit of the original Vacation while showing that the new movie has its own identity. With Keegan-Michael Key, Nick Kroll, Charlie Day, Regina Hall and Kaitlin Olson in the cast, the new Vacation comes from writers-turned-directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. It’ll visit our cinemas on August 21.
