Trailer For Carey Mulligan's Suffragette Arrives

Trailer For Carey Mulligan's Suffragette Arrives

Plus! The film will open this year's BFI London Film Festival

The date: Wednesday, October 7. The place: Odeon Leicester Square. The event: the 59th BFI London Film Festival. The film: Suffragette, the only film in the history of cinema to shoot at The Palace Of Westminster, better known as The Houses Of Parliament. But now, the very first trailer for the eagerly-anticipated period piece.

In a coup for the biggest film festival for the UK, the starry likes of Meryl Streep, Helena Bonham Carter, Carey Mulligan, Ben Whishaw and Brendan Gleeson will be on the red carpet for the film's European premiere, kicking off the LFF's 11-day cavalcade of cinematic delights.

For those not already in the know - or those who hadn't twigged from the title and/or the trailer - Suffragette tells the tale of the footsoldiers who headlined the British suffragette movement, fighting tirelessly for women's right to vote in the early 20th century. Streep herself plays Emmeline Pankhurst, while Bonham Carter plays Edith New.

"Suffragette is an urgent and compelling film — made by British women, about British women who changed the course of history, and it is, quite simply, a film that everyone must see," said festival director Clare Stewart.

Abi Morgan, who wrote The Iron Lady to Oscar-winning effect for Streep, as well as Brick Lane for Suffragette's director Sarah Gavron, is the screenwriter behind this one, with Alexandre Desplat composing. This LFF premiere on October 7 comes just two weeks before the film's nationwide release, which is October 23.

Exclusive New Song Of The Sea Poster

Exclusive New Song Of The Sea Poster

And the Oscar-nominated animation gets a UK trailer

Although it was denied Oscar-night glory by Big Hero 6, Gaelic animation Song Of The Sea is far too charming to begrudge Baymax and co their moment of glory. The second hand-drawn animation from Irishman Tomm Moore, its siren song will finally be heard on these shores in July. Here’s a new poster and a UK trailer to help spread the word.

A seaside-set yarn about a silent young girl who’s part human and part seal – a mythological Selkie – and her older brother, Song Of The Sea is a folklore-infused adventure featuring witches, killer owls, a grieving lighthouse man voiced by Brendan Gleeson and a whole mess of mystical spirits. It’s very much in the spirit of Studio Ghibli’s output, combining coming-of-age and visual playfulness, although The Secret Of Kells man again brings his own Celtic stamp to things.{Song Of The Sea Poster} The story was conjured up by director Moore and magicked into a screenplay by Will Collins. "The original fantasy that Tomm had," said Collins, "was a story about a family who lived out by the sea and he wanted to tackle the issue of the way our mythology and our culture was slowly eroding, but also to pursue some environmental themes as well. For me, the first thing I thought about was how we could make this issue a family story, and essentially a relatable story with an emotional take to it. So I really wanted to focus on developing the family and seeing what was the problem in their world, trying to find a way of fixing that."

Song Of The Sea opens in the UK on July 10.

You Could Be In The Conjuring 2

You Could Be In The Conjuring 2

…assuming you’re a child and happy to be haunted

Hot off the third highest grossing film ever made, director James Wan returns to his genre heartland for his next project, The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist. The good news? You (or your offspring) could be joining him. Wan has issued an open casting call for the horror sequel, seeking four suitably scare-worthy youngsters to bolster the cast list.

The official descriptions of the parts up for grabs are as follows:

Janet Hodgson (lead role)
Age 11 · Caucasian
She is a thoughtful and curious girl from Enfield, London. Working class. We are looking for an exceptional child with emotional intelligence for this role. London or standard British accent. She must be able to handle dialogue and convey strong emotions.

Billy Hodgson (supporting role)
Age 8 · Caucasian
Billy is the youngest of the Hodgson siblings and suffers from a stutter. He is cute and playful – the baby of the family. London or standard British accent. He must be able to handle dialogue and convey strong emotions.

Margaret Hodgson (supporting role)
Age 14 · Caucasian
Margaret is the oldest Hodgson child. She is a sympathetic and supportive young woman. She is academic and mature. London or standard British accent. She must be able to handle lots of dialogue and convey strong emotions.

Johnny Hodgson (supporting role)
Age 10 · Caucasian
He is quick witted and picks fights with his siblings. He is a good footballer – boyish. London or standard British accent. He must be able to handle lots of dialogue and convey emotion.

Not to be confused with Timothy Spall-starring miniseries, The Enfield Haunting, which recently aired on Sky Living, The Conjuring 2 also charts the events recorded in that Brimsdown council house where demonic voices and possessed furniture made the homeowners' lives a misery. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson’s ghostbusting duo, the Warrens, will be back for the film, leaving Rhode Island behind as they make their way to an equally haunted North London.

No previous acting experience is required for three vacant roles but submission tapes have to be in by June 10, so don’t tarry. Visit http://ift.tt/1Kc2SCo for full details.

New Red Band Ted 2 Trailer Drops In

New Red Band Ted 2 Trailer Drops In

12 Angry Bears

As gleefully wrong as its possibly for a film to be without breaking the law or being directed by Gaspar Noé, Ted 2 is arriving in town next month with a fresh payload of stoner silliness featuring John and his childhood repro-bear, Ted. The movie has a new red-band trailer to share below. Be warned: the list of places this is not suitable for watching in is long and comprehensive.

Picking up from the first movie, we find Ted (Seth MacFarlane) now happily married to his girlfriend Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth). The wrinkle? The pair want a baby and, being a stuffed toy, Ted lacks the biological can-do to get the job done. In steps Mark Wahlberg’s John as a sperm donor. But to become a parent, he needs to be recognised as a legal person, so he consults a lawyer (Amanda Seyfried’s Samantha L. Jackson) and gets some help from a legendary civil rights legality crusader, played by Morgan Freeman.

Expect this not to be The Verdict or 12 Angry Men. Judging by the new trailer, there's an awful lot more bong-smoking than in either of those films, although perhaps not as much drinking as the former.

Ted 2 also features Liam Neeson, Patrick Warburton, Dennis Haysbert, Michael Dorn, Richard Schiff, Martin Klebba, Sam Jones and Ron Canada. Patrick Stewart returns for narrator duty, and MacFarlane is again on writer-director duties. It staggers into our cinemas on July 10.

New Batch Of Ant-Man Stills Arrive

New Batch Of Ant-Man Stills Arrive

Plus! A new t-antalising TV spot...

The latest issue of Empire is a superhero special, and the special superhero worthy of the front over is Marvel's Ant-Man - also known as Scott Lang, as played by Paul Rudd - and here he is again, on the internet, with a new TV spot and a selection of new stills to get you excited about the July 17 release.

For those not in the know, Michael Douglas’s scientist Hank Pym is the inventor of the suit that lets Scott Lang get tiny and run around a lot. Pym is the man who discovered the particles that let him shrink objects and people way, way, down. He recruits Scott for a heroic heist that will let them both save not their own world, but everyone else’s. And for Scott, whose criminal record is lengthening, it’s a chance for him to be the hero his daughter sees.

{Ant-Man New Stills Gallery}

They’ll have to deal with Corey Stoll’s Darren Cross, who - as you've seen from both the clip above and the trailer - has his own plans for the tech with his more nefarious alter ego Yellowjacket. Also along for the ride are Evangeline Lilly, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, Gregg Turkington, T.I., and John Slattery, who returns as Howard Stark in flashbacks.

Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man hits UK screens on July 17, while our superhero special with exclusive on-set Ant-Man access is out on shelves now.

Agent Carter Gets A UK Release Date

Agent Carter Gets A UK Release Date

The first season of Hayley Atwell's Marvel show will air in July

agent carter uk release date

Inspired by the Marvel one-shot short film of the same name, the eight-episode Agent Carter TV show aired on American TV screens in January, but British fans of Hayley Atwell's secret agent - as originally seen in both standalone Captain America films, as well as more recently in Avengers: Age Of Ultron - were left in limbo as to when they'd get to see the first series. Now, news arrives that Fox UK has picked it up, and July 1 will be the release date.

For those not aware of how to access the Fox channel in Britain, here's a link with all the details, and for those not aware of the set-up of the eagerly anticipated show, here it is:

Marvel’s Agent Carter tracks secret agent Peggy Carter as she deals with post-war America and a life without Cap in 1946. Peacetime has not been the best time for Carter, marginalised by her colleagues and forced balance administrative work with much more important, stealthy duties at the Strategic Scientific Reserve, helping to build what will eventually become S.H.I.E.L.D.

Shea Whigham plays Roger Dooley, chief at the SSR and boss of agents Carter, Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) and Sousa (Enver Gjokaj). The cast also includes James D’Arcy as the original human butler Jarvis and Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, AKA Tony’s dad and a key part of the SSR.

For a taste of what British viewers can expect, here's a teaser clip (from last year):

And if all this is getting you excited for what the future holds for the much-loved character, remember this: a second season has already been commissioned by ABC, and what's more, Ms Atwell herself has been tweeting some very intriguing photos of late...
