Tim Roth Joins Life At These Speeds

Tim Roth Joins Life At These Speeds

He's on board the novel adaptation

Tim-Roth-Life-At-These-Speeds

Having weathered the wintry climes of Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight set, Tim Roth has turned his attention to his next job. He’s joined the cast of Life At These Speeds, adapted from Marc Novak’s novel.

Life, which also stars Melanie Lynsky, Graham Rodgers, Billy Crudup, Liana Liberato, Peter Coyote, Stephanie Scott, Yul Vazquez, Elizabeth Canavan and Tom Cocquerel, follows what happens when a teenager loses his best friends in an accident. He starts running, and discovers that the exercise allows him to remember them perfectly, all while bringing him notoriety. And he realises he has a choice to make – does he keep his past memories alive, or start making new ones in the present?

Roth is set to play Coach Jarhead in the film, which Leif Tilden is directing. In addition to The Hateful Eight (which has yet to set a UK release date), the actor will also be seen in Cannes award winner Chronic, crime thriller The Jesuit and romantic comedy Mr. Right. Oh, and there’s also FIFA-backed film United Passions, which opens in the States this week and definitely won’t be affected by current events.

First Teaser For Pixar's The Good Dinosaur

First Teaser For Pixar's The Good Dinosaur

A brief glimpse of jurassic larks

Following a directorial switch and story overhaul mid-production, Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur – which was originally supposed to arrive last year – is finally set to hit our screens later in this one. The first, very brief look at the film in teaser trailer form has hit the web, so prepare for a trip into space and time below. Please note: wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff can have an effect on your brain, so be sure to pebble flange bumblebee sauce.

The Good Dinosaur asks you to ponder the question of what if the asteroid that impacted Earth all those millions of years ago never happened? What if the dinosaurs survived to live in the age of early man? And finally, what happens when a curious Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend he calls Spot? The two must join forces to journey across a harsh and mysterious landscape, with Arlo learning the power of confronting your fears.

Peter Sohn, who previously directed the short Partly Cloudy and was the movie’s original co-director, has moved up to the top spot for this one, with Denise Ream staying on board as producer. It’s too early too see whether the additional work needed has led to another Pixar success, but we trust in the Emeryville gang.

{The Good Dinosaur teaser poster}

With Lucas Neff, Bill Hader, Judy Greer, Frances McDormand, John Lithgow and Neil Patrick Harris lending their voices to the film, The Good Dinosaur will be out in the UK on November 27.

Roger Christian Turning Star Wars Companion Short Black Angel Into A Movie

Roger Christian Turning Star Wars Companion Short Black Angel Into A Movie

He has Rutger Hauer and John Rhys-Davies ready to star

A long time ago – well, 35 years – in a place not quite so far away, an art director named Roger Christian, who had won an Oscar for his work on Star Wars, was asked by that film’s director, George Lucas, to make a short film to accompany The Empire Strikes Back. The result, Black Angel had a short life in cinemas and was presumed lost until recently, but now Christian is turning it into a full-length feature with genre stalwarts Rutger Hauer and John Rhys-Davies, at the head of the cast.

Despite the short lingering in limbo until it was discovered in Universal’s extensive archives in 2013, it has been something of a cult sensation, and is cited as an influence on other films including John Boorman’s Excalibur.

Christian, who in the intervening years became a director on the likes of Nostradamus, Masterminds and (whisper it) Battlefield Earth, is returning to write and direct the full-length adaptation, which will see a knight on a quest to fight the titular Black Angel, commander of the Demon King’s forces. With sorcerer Myrddin and Princess Kyna at his side, together they’ll have to stop the darkness engulfing the land. With $15 million in financing already secure, Christian is also looking to raise $100,000 through crowd funding to bolster the budget and allow people to be involved. “It’s my passion project, has been for 35-36 years,” Christian tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I guess ‘patience is a virtue’ is a true saying." He’s pleased with the initial $15 million, too. “I can make a huge epic film with that,” he says. “I’m going down and dirty, I want the audience to smell the blood and the sweat and the tears. I’ll be doing fights in mud and rain.”

And why crowd funding? “It may seem a small amount, but it all helps, and I think it’s very important to build you fan base, and that’s what it does.” If you do feel like adding to the film’s pot, the Indiegogo page is here. And should you want to watch the original shot? You’re in luck – take a look below.
