Arielle Holmes Finds American Honey

Arielle Holmes Finds American Honey

She'll appear with Shia LaBeouf in Andrea Arnold's next film

Arielle-Holmes-American-Honey

Wuthering Heights director Andrea Arnold is already at work on her next film – American Honey – with cameras cranking in Oklahoma. So it’s a good thing that she’s found someone besides Shia LaBeouf to star in it, hiring Arielle Holmes.

The film, written by Arnold, follows a runaway teenager who starts selling magazine subscriptions to make money and falls in with a crowd that encourages love, hard-partying and law-breaking. It’s sort of an Almost Famous for the magazine subs crowd, with Arnold making several trips across to the States while researching the script, immersing herself in a real-life magazine sales team.

LaBeouf’s role remains shrouded in mystery, and Deadline’s story on the film mentions that Holmes isn’t the star, so we’re assuming Arnold has once again found a total newcomer for the main role, but she has yet to release any details.

Holmes could be a source of information for whoever does rake that primary part, since she spent time living on the streets of New York as a 19-year-old, before she was discovered by filmmakers Joshua and Ben Safdie, who were doing research for a project. They encouraged her to tell her story, which will be published as a memoir and has already become a film starring Holmes and directed by the pair, called Heaven Knows What. The movie has just opened in the US after a successful run at festivals, but there’s no word on a UK release.

Eddie Redmayne Eyed As Fantastic Beasts Lead

Eddie Redmayne Eyed As Fantastic Beasts Lead

Update: He's signed!

Eddie-Redmayne-Eyed-Fantastic-Beasts

Update: It's not really a surprise given that he was recently reported as officially in talks, but Redmayne has now signed on for the role.

The spirit of the Harry Potter cinematic universe is alive and well at Warner Bros., with the studio going full speed ahead on the first of a planned trilogy based on J.K. Rowling’s book Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. With Potter veteran director David Yates aboard, the film might have found its leading man. Newly minted Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne is Warners’ top choice.

The first Fantastic Beasts film, adapted by Rowling from her novella, already has a set date of November 18, 2016, with the sequels penciled in for 2018 and 2020.

That initial film and its follow-ups will be very loosely based on Rowling's universe-expanding textbook about magical creatures. It’s set in the wizarding world and boasts creatures and characters both new and familiar to Potter but is not a direct prequel to the current stories, instead set 70 years before Harry sets foot in Hogwarts. That puts the setting somewhere around 1921, featuring Magizoologist and credited author of the book Newt Scamander (Redmayne, if he signs).

Redmayne most recently reunited with his Les Miserables director Tom Hooper for The Danish Girl, which will be out here on January 1 next year.
