ISIS Has Taken Over The Real-Life Tatooine

Dedicated Star Wars fans have long been traveling to the famous sets to try witness some of the magic in these exotic locales. Those planning a trip to Tataouine in Tunisia, though, are being discouraged from doing so. Multiple countries, including the U.S., have issued warnings in light of recent jihadist activity linked to ISIS in and around the small town. Luke Skywalker’s home planet of Tatooine was inspired by Tataouine. While filming did not take place directly in the town, the surrounding cliffs and dunes served as the backdrop. Even some of the scenes from The ...

Will The Fighter 2 Happen? Here's What The Producer Says

While biopics have been a successful genre in the move industry, they are also the hardest subset to engage in strategically. After all, a standard film about someone's life will usually cover all of the interesting parts in one sitting. David O. Russell's The Fighter knew to leave some events out of  the film's running time, in hopes of producing a sequel built on the continuing adventures of Micky Ward. It's been a couple of years since the first word of a possible sequel has broken out, but producer Todd Lieberman seems to walk the ...

Exclusive New TV Spot For Child 44

Exclusive New TV Spot For Child 44

Tom Hardy is a hunter hunted

It’s Tom Hardy versus the Soviet Union circa 1953 in Child 44 – Bane versus Stalin, if you like - and it could go either way. Hardy’s Soviet police office find himself spun in a web that may have no obvious exit, bar the gulag or cemetery, as the movie’s new TV spot shows. It’s debuting here courtesy of Entertainment One.

Adapted from the first of a book trilogy by Tom Rob Smith, Child 44 finds Soviet police officer Leo Demidov (Hardy) investigating a serial killer who is targeting children. The twist? Stalinist Russia doesn’t recognise the existence of crime, so Demidov’s enquiries only arouse the suspicions of dangerous apparatchiks. And as he digs deeper into the case, his government begins to suspect him of treason when a colleague frames him.

Noomi Rapace is playing his conflicted wife, Raisa, and Gary Oldman is the chief of police soon assigned to investigate his supposedly errant colleague. {Child 44 stills} Safe House director Daniel Espinosa is behind this one, working up a tale of paranoia, treachery and crime that is loosely based on real events. With Richard Price handling script chores and Joel Kinnaman, Charles Dance, Vincent Cassel, Tara Fitzgerald, Paddy Considine and Fares Fares all helping to bolster the impressive cast, Child 44 will be out here on April 17.

Trailer For Slow West Rides Online

Trailer For Slow West Rides Online

Michael Fassbender saddles up

While the SuperFurryAnimals' Gruff Rhys has diverted into idiosyncratic documentaries for his film career, the Beta Band's John Maclean has opted for a full-blown western for his feature debut. Following a couple of shorts, Slow West is actually his third collaboration with Michael Fassbender. Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ben Mendelsohn, Rory McCann and Caren Pistorious also star. And here's the new trailer.

Playing to an enthusiastic reception at Sundance, Slow West is an off-kilter take on the genre that still manages to keep the bullets flying while Fassbender chomps an Eastwood-type cigarillo. Some early viewers have compared it to Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man, while others have said it's more Wes Anderson.

Whatever, the story involves Smit-McPhee journeying across the new American frontier in the late 19th Century to find the girl he loves, picking up mysterious "chaperone" Fassbender along the way. Life, it's fair to say, is not peaceful there, in the open air. Whether our hero finds a place where there's so much space remains to be seen.

Slow West next plays the Tribeca Film Festival on April 18, and gets a release in the UK on June 26.

Tyrese Gibson Hints That He's The New Green Lantern

Tyrese Gibson has been hinting for a number of months now that he has an extreme interest in playing the first Green Lantern of the DC Cinematic Universe, but now the actor seems to be hinting that the gig might actually belong to him. The new vague evidence comes to us directly from Gibson's personal Instagram account, where the actor posted a brand new Photoshop job of him in a Green Lantern costume. But while that's rather ordinary, what's special about this particular post is the caption it comes with: The Oath - See you soon........ A photo posted by ...
