Veep's Timothy Simons Joins Michelle Darnell

Veep's Timothy Simons Joins Michelle Darnell

Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone’s new comedy Michelle Darnell has been stocking up on comically-gifted cast members like some of recruitment agency for the funny. Joining McCarthy, Kristen Bell, Peter Dinklage and Kathy Bates is Veep’s Timothy Simons.

No word on who Simons, the smug White House liaison Jonah ‘Jonad’ Ryan in HBO's Emmy-winning comedy, will be playing as yet. We do know that McCarthy, Steve Mallory and Falcone’s script has the former playing a former finance fromage who gets locked up for insider trailer and emerges to discover that her former associates and friends want payback for her misdemeanours.

Among those will be Bell, as her former assistant, a single mother raising her child and harbouring no real love for her ex-boss. Also already aboard are Dinklage as Michelle’s primary antagonist and Bates as the mentor that she always looked up to. The film is in pre-production at Universal now, and is already scheduled for May 6 next year in the UK.

Simons' big screen profile has been building too with recent roles in The Interview, Inherent Vice and Draft Day. He's next up in Jack Black horror-comedy Goosebumps and Joe Swanberg's next, Digging For Fire.

Stephen King's The Jaunt Gets Optioned

Stephen King's The Jaunt Gets Optioned

Mama duo teleporting it to the screen

Brad Pitt’s Plan B is building a reputation for shepherding bold, creative projects into life. Selma, 12 Years A Slave, Killing Me Softly and Moneyball have all been lovingly nursed through production with varying degrees of success, and it looks likely that Stephen King’s The Jaunt will join World War Z in representing the more fantastical end of the production house’s slate. Mama duo Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti are now attached to the project.

A short story originally published by King in Twilight Zone Magazine, The Jaunt found a home and a fanbase in 1985 short story anthology, Skeleton Crew. The premise, set in the 24th century, sees a dad explaining the basis of ‘jaunting’, a teleportation device with which he’ll transport his family to Mars. So far, so About Time meets Total Recall. Of course, things can – and do – go horribly wrong in the process. An unanesthetised mind will actually implode during jaunting, overloaded with all the stimuli that comes with lurching through the solar system at brain-bending speeds. And that'll ruin anyone's day.

Expect rapid movement on this one. King, whose Dark Tower may finally be coming together with Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman and has time-travelling sci-fi 11/22/63 on its way to Hulu, has a $1/90-day option period that will be focusing minds at Plan B. A writer will need to be in place and active development underway during that timeframe or the rights will elapse. Look out for more on this one soon.

Big Hero 6 Sequel Talk Confirmed, Get The Latest

It was only a couple weeks ago that Big Hero 6 co-director Chris Williams told us that a sequel was only going to happen if a great story presented itself. That statement is not only common sense, it's also the standard Disney corporate line when asked about a sequel to a wildly successful, Academy Award winning hit. But if you were surprised by today's announcement that Frozen 2 is definitely coming our way, then get ready to be surprised by rumors that Big Hero 6 is starting to warm up its hard drive for more action. Before today's announcement about Frozen 2, Screen Rant ...

10 Disney Animated Classics That Need To Go Live-Action

Turning the classic animated Disney films of yore into live-action films is Hollywood's latest trend. Not only is Kenneth Branagh's blindingly bright take on Cinderella due in cinemas this weekend, but Bill Condon is directing a Beauty and the Beast movie, and just a few days ago it was also announced that Tim Burton plans on making a live-action Dumbo remake too. Of course, one could say this is all Angelina Jolie's fault. Maleficent, the re-imagining of Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of its antagonist, was a massive success last year, taking in $758.4 million at the box office, and that ...
