Jake Gyllenhaal's Drug-Smuggling Drama Just Took A Big Step Forward, Get The Details

Jake Gyllenhaal's career has never been better. After ending 2014 with a wave of critical acclaim for his portrayal as Lou Bloom in Nightcrawler, he looks set to build upon this recognition in 2015 with a number of interesting projects. And it now turns out that Jake Gyllenhaal is looking even further afield than that with The Man Who Made It Snow. Jake Gyllenhaal had signed up to star in Antoine Fuqua's Colombian crime-biopic several months back, but now the film has taken a huge leap forward thanks to Harvey Weinstein. According to the Hollywood Reporter, it was announced by the Weinsten ...

Star Wars 7 Hasn't Even Opened And J.J. Abrams Already Won This Major Award

It's safe to say that when the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was first released the whole world took a step back, and then screamed out in unison, "Fuck, yeah!" Well, it turns out that the Visual Effects Society were so enamoured with the teaser that they've decided to give J.J. Abrams an award, just under a year before The Force Awakens actually hits screens. According to Deadline, the VES decided to honor J.J. Abrams for his impending re-launch of the hugely popular sci-fi franchise, as well as his work on a variety of other ...

Guy Pierce Heads For Brimstone

Guy Pierce Heads For Brimstone

Mia Wasikowska also aboard the Western thriller

Guy-Pearce-Brimstone

Outside of Quentin Tarantino’s efforts, Westerns haven’t exactly been enjoying a lot of box office success again recently. But mashing up the genre with others seems to pay dividends for some film. Brimstone, which blends the oater with a thriller, is hoping for some luck and has corralled Guy Pearce and Mia Wasikowska to star.

Martin Koolhoven, who wrote the script and is directing the film in May this year, has Wasikowska on to play Liz, a heroine in the run from a difficult past who is fleeing pursuit by a diabolical preacher (Pearce, who knows how to deliver a dark character or two).

With The Drop’s cinematographer Nicolas Karakatsanis on board to define the look of the thriller, Koolhoven is rounding up the rest of the cast as the producers start to tout the distribution rights to the film at the European Film Market.

Pearce was last seen making life tough for Robert Pattinson in The Rover and has Results and Equals awaiting release. Wasikowska will next be seen in Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak and is back as Alice for the Wonderland sequel, Through The Looking Glass, due here in 2016.

The Walking Dead Poll: Who Else Will Die This Season?

The Walking Dead | Photo Credits: Gene Page/AMC

The cast of The Walking Dead suffered a number of losses during the first half of Season 5. And it doesn't sound like second half of the season, which premieres Sunday at 9/8c on AMC, is going to offer any relief to our scrappy band of survivors.

"What you'll find in the back eight [episodes] is that,

New Robot Overlords Clip Crashes In

New Robot Overlords Clip Crashes In

Giant 'bots get a new poster too

Essentially Skynet-on-Sea, the small-town setting for coming-of-age sci-fi Robot Overlords pinpoints the midpoint between The Terminator and Wish You Were Here. And yes, that place does exist. Here's a new clip to prove it, showcasing the film's organic and metallic protagonists in furious action.

Set in a world policed for three years by giant robots and under strict curfew, our heroes are a group of kids led by taciturn type Sean Flynn (The Great Gatsby’s Callan McAuliffe) who are mad as hell and aren’t going to take it anymore. It’s the work of Jon ‘Grabbers’ Wright and promises to tap into that fun, ‘80s spirit of Amblin films. “I woke up one morning having had a dream about being incarcerated in my house, with giant robots walking by in the street outside,” explains the director of its unusual genesis. “It gave birth to the notion of people being trapped in their houses. Nobody knows why the robots have done this, but that’s kind of what we find out over the course of the movie.”

The draconian robots are a clanking, by-now slightly rusting menace, keeping humankind cowed behind closed doors. Ben Kingsley’s sour-faced school teacher Mr. Smyth is one of those in the if-you-can’t-beat-‘em-join-‘em camp, weaselling his way into a position of power and looking suitably stern on the new poster. Click on the image below for a closer look. {New Robot Overlords Poster} With Gillian Anderson also aboard for the ride, Robot Overlords hits UK cinemas on March 27.

Disney Wants To Make It Super Easy For Marvel And Star Wars Fans To Stream Content

Could there come a time when properties like Star Wars and Marvel are available exclusively on a Disney streaming service? Well, the possibility is not all that preposterous, at least if Disney's CEO, Bob Iger has anything to say about it. (Which, he presumably does.) In a recent interview, the head Mouseketeer discussed the company's current streaming services, when he begins to hint at the idea that the exploits from the pages of Marvel Comics and from "A Galaxy Far, Far Away" might be heading to a similar business model. On a conference call on Tuesday, Iger brought up Disney's ...

The Poltergeist Trailer Is Spooky, Haunted And Totally Terrifying

The original Poltergeist stands as one of those horror classics from our youth (if you are of a certain age), and you'll never look at snow on a television set the same way after you have seen it. Remaking classic properties doesn't always sound like the best idea, but the central conceit of a haunted house always works, and the new trailer for Gil Kenan's Poltergeist reboot has some legitimate scares in it. Watch it below: More to come...
