Someone Tried To Burn The Mrs. Doubtfire House Down

Last year, we lost a legend when Robin Williams' untimely death shocked us all. Among the most fondly remembered of all of his films was, naturally, the 1993 classic Mrs. Doubtfire. Just mention the film's title, and everyone has something they remember the film by. Be it a favorite moment, line, or even impression; everyone has something to remember the film by. One of those memorable aspects is the San Francisco house that Williams' Daniel Hillard and his family lived in, and where Mrs. Doubtfire worked her magic. As if the loss of Williams wasn't bad enough, we almost lost the ...

Gugu Mbatha-Raw Heads For Free State Of Jones

Gugu Mbatha-Raw Heads For Free State Of Jones

She'll star alongside Matthew McConaughey

Gugu-Mbatha-Raw-Free-State-Of-Jones

She enjoyed a successful 2014 between period drama Belle and music pic Beyond The Lights, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s 2015 is shaping up fairly well too. She’s now landed a role in Free State Of Jones opposite Matthew McConaughey.

Gary Ross has been developing the American Civil War drama for several years now, planning to bring to the screen the story of Newton Knight. A Mississippi man who had been a loyal Confederate recruit, he defected from the army and took a group of like-minded troops with him to create the Free State of Jones. Knight later married a slave (Mbatha-Raw’s Rachel), creating one of the first ever publicised mixed race unions in the South, fought against the Confederates from within his new state and led a daring raid to free children who were still enslaved following the end of the conflict.

Now that he’s locked down the crucial two lead roles, Ross will finally start shooting this year. Mbatha-Raw is part of the cast for Jupiter Ascending (due here on February 6) and has most recently worked on The Whole Truth with Keanu Reeves. She’s currently shooting the untitled Will Smith American football concussion drama (which will need a much catchier name before it hits screens).

T.J. Miller And Ed Skrein Eyed For Deadpool

T.J. Miller And Ed Skrein Eyed For Deadpool

Ryan Reynolds still set to star

TJ-Miller-Deadpool

With Ryan Reynolds cemented back in the role he’s wanted to play for years – meta superhero Deadpool – and the film now gearing up for a 2016 release, the Fox pic is looking for people to cast around its leading man. T.J. Miller and Ed Skrein are in talks to sign up.

Visual effects veteran Tm Miller is behind the camera for this one, having delivered a test reel to show the anarchic style he aims to bring to the film. The plot, from Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese’s script, is being kept quiet for now, but expect a lot of trademark quips and fourth wall shattering from “the merc with a mouth”.

As for who Miller and Skrein might play should they actually lock in contracts? It’s anyone’s guess, though The Wrap reports that Miller is being eyed as another comic-tinged voice for the film, while Skrein may end up as the villain.

Miller has become a reliable comic actor in recent years, even bringing something to projects such as last year’s Transformers: Age Of Extinction. He enjoyed more critical success with How To Train Your Dragon 2 and HBO comedy Silicon Valley. He’ll next be back in animated form here for Disney’s latest ‘toon, Big Hero 6, which arrives on January 30. As for Skrein, he’s cropped up in the likes of Ill Manors and The Sweeney and is set to take over Jason Statham’s role as Frank Martin in The Transporter Legacy, which has now wrapped shooting. As for Deadpool, expect him to jump into our cinemas on February 12 next year.

Duncan Jones Talks Warcraft's Plot

Duncan Jones Talks Warcraft's Plot

Charting the first contact between Orcs and humans

Duncan-Jones-On-Warcraft-Plot

Even though the calendar has reached 2015, we still have more a year to go before Duncan Jones unleashes his Warcraft film on the world. Recently, he let slip some details about the characters for the game adaptation, and has now talked to Chinese news site Mtime (with a helpful translation via Man Made Movies) about his aims for the film’s tone and story.

According to the director, he was looking to explore the initial meetings between Orcs and humans that lead to the big conflict. “From the moment I first talked to Blizzard, the plan was to start our film with the first time Orcs met Humans,” he says. “First contact! I think that for a world with so much newness to explain, this was a wise choice, especially when so many people in our audience may not know anything about Warcraft… It was important that some of our characters would be seeing the world fresh as well, and that the audience could see the situation through their eyes. A Warcraft film should not be about a good race of humans battling an evil race of orcs! Warcraft should be about heroes on both sides trying to avoid a conflict, when villains leave them no choice.”

And for inspiration, he looked to a slightly successful fantasy trilogy for inspiration: “Peter Jackson did a magnificent job of ‘setting the table’ for Tolkien’s universe with his first Lord Of The Rings film. I know that my job in this first film is to establish certain characters, places and culture while telling a story that a broad audience can be excited by! Hopefully, if I have done my job right, people will want to know and see more! There is certainly plenty more to tell! I would love to be part of that process of expanding on the lore that makes up Warcraft, but it will all depend on what you, the audience, think of our first film!”

So there you have it: Jones is hopeful, and still has plenty of time to wrangle what must be a beast of an effects job and apply the finishing touches. With luck, we’ll see a trailer soon.

Ant-Man Teaser Trailer Lands

Ant-Man Teaser Trailer Lands

'Is it too late to change the name?'

Marvel has been having all sorts of size-related fun as it kicked off the Ant-Man marketing campaign this week – a teeny, “ant-sized” teaser for the trailer (which itself is a relatively short teaser anyway) and now a poster featuring a tiny Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) in costume along with the teaser itself.

Clearly leaning into the idea that some in the audience will find the basic concept a little ridiculous (a suit that can shrink down to the size of an insect to fight crime?), this first proper look at the movie beyond test footage lets Paul Rudd voice a concern about the name of his heroic alter ego while also offering brief glimpses of how the shrinking system will work, moments of action and having Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym explain why he wanted him involved.

Pym, of course, is the inventor of the suit, the man who discovered the particles that let him shrink objects and people down. He recruits Scott for a heroic heist that will let them both save not their own world, but everyone else’s. And for Scott, whose criminal record is lengthening, it’s a chance for him to be the hero his daughter sees. {Ant-Man teaser imagery}

They’ll have to deal with Corey Stoll’s Darren Cross, who has his own plans for the tech with his more nefarious alter ego Yellowjacket. Also along for the ride are Evangeline Lilly, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, Gregg Turkington, T.I., and John Slattery, who returns as Howard Stark in flashbacks.

There’s a definite feeling that director Peyton Reed (working from a script that has seen input from Anchorman’s Adam McKay and Rudd) is going for a more straightforward heroic story, but there will be plenty of comedy along for the ride. Expect to see more of Ant-Man in action as additional shots of the finished effects work shows up. The film will be out here on July 17.

One NFL Superstar Loves Annoying Teammates By Constantly Quoting The Princess Bride

The Princess Bride is regarded as one of the most quotable films of the 1980s. William Goldman's script is packed to the brim with supremely witty lines, each of which were fabulously delivered by the movie's hugely talented cast. And it turns out that one of the movie's most famous fans is the Green Bay Packers' quarterback Aaron Rodgers. It's just a pity that none of his teammates have also seen the film. Aaron Rodgers has been in strong form for the Green Bay Packers since the start of the 2014/2015 NFL season. According to the Wall Street Journal, Aaron Rodgers ...
