Why Christopher Nolan Deserved A Golden Globes Nomination For Directing Interstellar

The Golden Globe nominations hit this morning, and while there were a fair share of shoo-ins logged, there were also some surprises and some snubs. In the latter category stands movies like Whiplash and Nightcrawler, which were both hotly talked about upon their release, but ultimately failed to seal the deal when it came to winning the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's favor. While both of those films secured acting nominations to soothe their jangled nerves, there's one film that didn't even get that courtesy: Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. Now, granted, Interstellar severely deserves its lone nomination for Hans Zimmer's absolutely gorgeous ...

Jennifer Lawrence For Ghostbusters 3? We Have Momentum

One name you don't hear associated with Ghostbusters casting rumors has been Jennifer Lawrence. And why would you? The multi-talented actress already has two franchises to her name in The Hunger Games and the X-Men series. When she isn't lending her powers to a tentpole, she's contending for Oscars in a David O. Russell drama like American Hustle or Joy. But her name is now in the Ghostbusters conversation, mainly because she put it there. MTV UK spent their past few junket slots asking major movie stars who they'd like to see in Paul Feig's all-female Ghostbusters movie. They questioned ...

Disney's Star Wars Attractions Look To The Future

Disney's Star Wars Attractions Look To The Future

And could Doctor Who become a UK theme park ride?

Star-Wars-Force-Awakens-Theme-Park

Even before Disney snapped up Lucasfilm and began developing new Star Wars movies, the company’s theme parks has had a presence representing George Lucas’ adventures in that galaxy far, far away. Now, the attractions will be evolving to focus on Star Wars: The Force Awakens and beyond.

“There will be a much larger Star Wars presence in our parks globally,” Disney boss Bob Iger said during a Variety event. “But we want to do this big, which takes time, and to do it right.” Theoretically, that might mean saying goodbye to the current likes of Star Tours – which got an update a few years ago – or simply adding more content from J.J. Abrams’ film, the other franchise episodes and the spin-offs being crafted by the likes of Josh Trank and Gareth Edwards.

And part of the thinking comes from targeting those whose primary experience of the SW universe is from the new movie. “I didn’t want someone to say, ‘I just saw the movie and there’s nothing in that movie in this attraction,” Iger said. “We waited to see what this film would have in it.” Intriguingly, he also revealed that the company, urged by the ever mystery-conscious Abrams, almost didn’t release the new teaser trailer that has sparked such interest. But realising that the fan base would revolt without something concrete, the director and the Mouse House relented.

In additional theme park news (lest you think Empire has suddenly become obsessed with roller coasters and the like) a new Paramount Pictures theme park set to be based in Kent has reached a deal with the BBC to include attractions based on the broadcaster’s biggest shows. No formal plans have been made yet, but titles already talked about include Doctor Who and Sherlock (which we can really see working, particularly Who, given the Doctor Who Experience) and, er, Top Gear. Which might be some sort of driving challenge or possibly the chance for outraged viewers to throw rotten fruit at a stocks-locked Jeremy Clarkson the next time he says something offensive. Can they have it ready for next month?

Kirsten Dunst And Jesse Plemons Set For Fargo Season 2

Kirsten Dunst And Jesse Plemons Set For Fargo Season 2

With the new story set in 1979

Kristen-Dunst-Fargo-Season-2

Initially greeted with some scepticism – after all, how could you adapt something as singular as a Coen brothers film into a TV series? – the small screen version of Fargo proved to be a treat, featuring great performances from the likes of Martin Freeman, Billy Bob Thornton and Alison Tolman and a solid storyline than has seen the show nominated for a Golden Globe. Season 2 will be a very different story with a fresh cast and Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons will be part of the ensemble.

With show runner Noah Hawley back in charge once more, the new series is set in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1979. Small-town beautician Peggy Blomquist (Dunst) is a woman with big city dreams and a yearning to change her life, while her butcher’s assistant husband Ed (Plemons) wants to support her new-found desire for self-discovery, but isn’t sure how to show it.

Their story will intermingle with another allegedly true crime case, this time investigated by a young Lou Solverson (as played in the first season by Keith Carradine), with that role still to be cast alongside his wife, young daughter and police partner Ben Schmidt. According to Hawley, the new season will take inspiration from Fargo (natch), Miller’s Crossing and The Man Who Wasn’t There. It’ll start shooting next month in Canada with a late 2015 airdate planned.

Mark Hamill Reacts To Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer Release

What did R2-D2 think of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer? How about Lando? Because we already know that George Lucas hasn't bothered to watch the first promo reel for J.J. Abrams' new Star Wars movie, and now Luke Skywalker himself has weighed in with a bit of commentary. Mark Hamill was speaking with IGN about NBC's stop-motion animation special Elf: Buddy's Musical Christmas, but he commented on the trailer for the hugely-anticipated sequel. "It's hard to believe it's a whole year away that we have to wait," Hamill joked, "but I'm practicing my phrase, ‘You have ...
