First Hot Tub Time Machine 2 Trailer Lands

First Hot Tub Time Machine 2 Trailer Lands

Prepare to party like it's 2024

That Hot Tub Time Machine sequel you don’t remember ordering? Well, it’s here with a new trailer, a trimmed-down cast, some fresh time-travel mayhem and one or two big laughs to sink your teeth into. After July's red-band trailer, the Hot Tub Time Machine – or "HTTM" – party is underway again. Click below to watch it in full.

Gone, of course, is John Cusack, leaving the Hot Tub Time Machine 2 spotlight on the three time-twisting amigos, Nick (Craig Robinson), Jacob (Clark Duke) and Lou (Rob Corddry), with Adam Scott stepping in as the son of Cusack’s character. Yes, he’s only seven years younger than the man who played his father but, well, there are TIME TRAVEL REASONS to explain this.

There are also time travel reasons to explain their new-found fortunes, because this one sees the crew making like Biff Tannen in Back To The Future 2 and using their time portal to win riches, success and fame. Corddry “invents” the internet and Nick takes credit for writing ‘Call Me Maybe’. But then Lou is shot in the groin by a mysterious attacker and the three decide to head back in time and figure out what happened. Except, partly thanks to them being very drunk, they end up ten years in the future, where everything is different again.

And yet they still have a chance to find the killer, who appears to be from the future. It also gives them a chance to meet the likes of Adam (Scott – see, told you!) and Gary (Jason Jones).

With Steve Pink back in the director’s chair, Hot Tub Time Machine 2 lands in the UK on February 18, and two days later Stateside.

Jonathan Frakes After Star Trek 3

Jonathan Frakes After Star Trek 3

You have the bridge, Number One

Jonathan Frakes, Star Trek

The Enterprise helm was left deserted last week after Roberto Orci announced that he was no longer attached to direct the next Star Trek film. With no replacement in sight, Trekkies around the world mobilised to put a new name forward to continue JJ Abrams’ new Trek legacy. With #BringInRiker trending on Twitter, fans entreated Paramount to enlist former Next Gen First Officer and veteran Trek director Jonathan Frakes for the job. After several days of this, Frakes himself has responded that he would happily accept the promotion.

In a radio interview with Komo News, Frakes assured listeners that “I'm all over it. I would love that job. I'm trying to keep the lid on how excited I am about the possibility, knowing it's such a long shot. But there's nothing I would like better." According to Frakes, he has contacted Paramount to express his interest and is waiting on their response. Having directed numerous episodes of Next Generation, Voyager and Deep Space Nine, Frakes was also responsible for bringing the Borg to the big screen with Star Trek: First Contact, widely regarded as one of the best Trek films in the canon. He returned to direct the follow-up, Star Trek: Insurrection, which was less well received, featuring as it did F. Murray Abraham having facelifts and a re-pubescent Worf.

Frakes certainly has the experience and his impeccable Trek credentials would allay any fan worries but we can’t help but think that Paramount would see a Frakes-directed trek as a step backwards at this point. Also, with names like Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish being bandied around for the job it seems even less likely Riker will get his shot in this captain’s seat. Still, we're not ruling him out – he was Picard's right hand for seven years, after all!
