Martin Campbell Directing Sebastian X

Martin Campbell Directing Sebastian X

He's set for the graphic novel adaptation

Martin-Campbell-Sebastian-X

We’re still waiting to see another big screen effort from Casino Royale man Martin Campbell – when your most recent film is the drubbed Green Lantern, it makes sense that you’d carefully select your next project. So while several possibilities are still in the air, he’s taking his time. Campbell has just added another potential film, teaming up with producer Gale Anne Hurd for an adaptation of the graphic novel Sebastian X .

Déjà Vu writer Bill Marsillii is the man they’ve hired to write the script, adapting the title from French comics publisher Humanoids. Writer Michelangelo La Neve and artist Stuart Immonen concocted the graphic novel’s story, which sees an elite cop badly injured on a mission. As he recovers, he’s implanted with the memories of a terrorist so he can infiltrate the man’s gang before a planned attack.

Voltage Pictures is also backing this one, alongside Hurd’s Valhalla Pictures. It’s not the first time the director and producer have worked together: she produced his 1994 thriller No Escape. This new film will go into his box of potential films, which also includes Hunter Killer, The Dive and Umbra. And he has just completed a new assignment, a TV Movie called Warriors about military medical staff helping wounded troops returning from Afghanistan.

Jeff Daniels Eyed For The Steve Jobs Movie

Jeff Daniels Eyed For The Steve Jobs Movie

Danny Boyle wants him to play former Apple CEO John Sculley

Jeff-Daniels-Eyed-Steve-Jobs-Movie

Though it stills seems to be suffering the slings and arrows of a difficult development process – Natalie Portman has just passed on the female lead – Danny Boyle’s film about Steve Jobs is slowly coming together. Now, Boyle has his eye on Jeff Daniels to play a key figure from Jobs’ past, John Sculley.

Who he? He, in real life was the man in charge of Apple before Jobs returned to run the place. He’s one of the people interviewed by Walter Isaacson for his biography of Jobs and met with scriptwriter Aaron Sorkin when he was researching the adaptation, which will focus on three big product launches in the Apple man's career.

According to The Wrap, Michael Fassbender has locked in a deal to play Jobs, while Seth Rogen is close to signing on as Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple back in the day. As for Daniels, there’s no official offer yet, but as he’s right at the top of Boyle’s choices to play Sculley, negotiations are likely to kick off soon. And the role of former Mac marketing chief Joanna Hoffman, which Portman was considering, is one that still needs filling.

Daniels, who plays the lead on Sorkin’s HBO series The Newsroom, is about to see that show wrap up. Film-wise, he’s back on screen in Dumb And Dumber To and will work on Ridley Scott’s The Martian. With Universal backing the film, Boyle hopes to start shooting on Jobs next spring.

J.J. Abrams Producing New Sci-fi Pic For Sony

J.J. Abrams Producing New Sci-fi Pic For Sony

Chris Alender will direct the mystery movie

J-J-Abrams-Producing-New-Sci-Fi-Pic-Sony

Not content with co-writing, producing and directing the most anticipated science fiction film in years – that would be Star Wars: The Force Awakens if you’ve been living Wi-Fi free on Dagobah for the last few years – J.J. Abrams remains committed to other projects and, in particular, helping to launch and guide the careers of other filmmakers. He has Chris Alender attached to a mysterious new sci-fi film for Sony.

This being Abrams, there is naturally an ironclad veil of secrecy over the whole thing aside from it being a lower budgeted Cloverfield-level film that has aliens in it. It was cooked up at his production company, Bad Robot and originally found a home at Paramount, with Fringe/Almost Human writer Justin Doble cranking out a few drafts. But when the studio didn’t put it into production quickly enough, Abrams persuaded it to let him shop it elsewhere. Cue a bidding war won by Sony’s Michael De Luca.

Alender, meanwhile, a veteran of directing short films and marketing pieces, got his chance to direct by crafting an elaborate pitch for the film that included a digital look book, a sizzle reel and even a five minute, action-packed teaser scene. It’s clear Abrams sees something in him and wants to help boost his film career, much as he helped Matt Reeves kick into high gear with Cloverfield. And if we get films as solid as Let Me In and Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes from Alender, it’ll all be worth it. Sony, meanwhile, will have to make sure their current hack attack doesn’t see the details of the new film leaked all over the web, lest Abrams decide to move it elsewhere.

Hot Topics: Can TV Still Tackle Real Issues?

Anna Faris and Sadie Calvano | Photo Credits: Monty Brinton/CBS

Just two seasons in, the CBS sitcom Mom has already tackled some not-immediately-funny issues, including alcoholism, gambling, homelessness, and cancer. Even star Anna Faris admits she was shocked when her character's teen daughter turned up pregnant in the second episode.

"I thought it was a joke," says the actress, who plays Christy, a young mother struggling with sobriety. "I couldn't believe that so early on we would go down that road. We put a lot of trust in our viewers."

Watch Marvel Get A Big Middle Finger In This Guardians Of The Galaxy Honest Trailer

When Screen Junkies' Honest Trailers web-series was asked by fans to find fault with Guardians of the Galaxy, one imagines it was considered a serious challenge. After all, the Marvel film is one of the best reviewed films of the year and the biggest domestic hit. As it turns out, however, they found plenty about the movie to pick apart: In the end, Honest Trailers - like most of us - concluded that Guardians of the Galaxy was a preposterously entertaining slice of blockbuster cinema, but that didn't stop them from having some fun at the expense of Peter Quill, ...

Finding Nemo's Sequel Won't Take Place In The Ocean

Certainly one of the most impressive parts about Pixar's Finding Nemo was the way in which it depicted the various "cultures" and environments that exist beneath the waves of the ocean - but it seems that element may be largely taken out of the upcoming sequel, Finding Dory. New details have come in about the in-development film, and apparently most of the story actually takes place within one indoor location. The Portuguese-language website Omelete had the chance to speak with Pixar President Jim Morris recently at the Brazilian comic-con CCXP, and while discussing the upcoming Finding Dory, Morris revealed some ...

5 Marvel Characters Al Pacino Could Play In An Upcoming Movie

Yesterday, it was >revealed that veteran actor Al Pacino has met with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about doing something in the future. Aside from his role as Big Boy Caprice in 1990's Dick Tracy, Pacino hasn't appeared in any comic book films, and while it may seem weird for an actor primarily known for his crime roles to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it would give Pacino the opportunity to contribute to a world that's growing bigger every day. If he does accept a role, he would join the ranks of fellow acting legends like Robert Redford, Anthony Hopkins ...
