Miles Teller the rest are off to an alternate universe...
It might not hit cinemas until August next year, but 20th Century Fox has been remarkably withholding when it comes to imagery or footage from Josh Trank’s The Fantastic Four. But there is, at least, an official synopsis at last.
As released by the studio and reported by Rotten Tomatoes, the film’s basic pitch runs thus (trailer voice on, folks): "The Fantastic Four, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original and longest-running superhero team, centres on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy."
It appears to be a new take on the origin story for the heroes – here in the shape of Miles Teller (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic), Kate Mara (Sue Storm/Invisible Girl), Michael B. Jordan (Johnny Storm/The Human Torch) and Jamie Bell (Ben Grimm/The Thing) – as they traditionally got their various abilities from exposure to strange space radiation. So do they stumble into their new reality? Or are they still working on scientific research when their lives are changed? We’ll find out soon enough, as well as learning how much Trank and his team have altered Dr. Doom, played by Toby Kebbell, who recently let slip that his character’s origin has also been tweaked.
The Fantastic Four is out here on August 6. There will likely be a trailer along soon, as it’ll start to look like a slouch when certain movies not due until December next year are releasing footage…
