Dwayne Johnson In Talks For Disney's Moana

The demi-god Maui may have found his voice...

Disney hasn’t gone after truly huge names for its recent animated movies, but that looks set to change with Moana. Dwayne Johnson is in talks to bring his deep tones to the voice of demi-god Maui.

The film will tell the story of adventurous teenager Moana, who sets out on a seemingly impossible mission to fulfil her ancestors’ quest. Born in the ancient South Pacific locale of Oceania, the natural navigator is making it her mission to find a fabled island. On her journey, she’ll join forces with her hero, (Johnson’s Maui, if he signs on) and must brave all manner of challenges including giant sea creatures as she tries to reach her destination.

The new film comes from Ron Clements and John Musker, the people who brought the world Aladdin, The Princess And The Frog and The Little Mermaid. Voicing a legendary character seems fitting for The Rock, even if he hadn’t played Hercules this year.

He’ll be a little more mortal – well, as mortal as he ever gets – in Fast & Furious 7, which drives in on April 3. He’ll also be seen in disaster drama San Andreas (due May 29) and has been at work on a new HBO show, Ballers.

Kerry Washington Set For Amma Asante's Unforgettable

After bringing the true-life story of Belle to the screen this year, Amma Asante is ready to switching things up for her next directing gig. She has Kerry Washington and Kate Hudson ready to star in Unforgettable .

The thriller will track a guy who marries for the second time, only for his first wife to decide she’s going to make life hell for the new woman in his life. Deadline’s report doesn’t specify whether Washington and Hudson will be playing opposite each other in the movie, but it might be intriguing to see someone like Hudson try to take down Scandal’s Olivia Pope (we don’t like her chances).

Christina Hodson is writing the script for this one, which is set to go before cameras next year.

Washington, as mentioned, is on TV screens in Scandal and is set to appear in rom-com Is He The One. Hudson, last seen in Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here, has worked on Rock The Kasbah alongside Bill Murray and Zooey Deschanel.

Juno Temple Is Ready To Rock

...And roll for Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger's new HBO show

It wasn’t, perhaps, much of a surprise given that it had the backing of Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger and Boardwalk Empire creator/Wolf Of Wall Street writer Terence Winter, but HBO has ordered their new, still untitled rock ‘n’ roll drama to series, with Juno Temple, Ray Romano, Andrew Dice Clay, Ato Essandoh, Max Casella, James Jagger and Jack Quaid all joining the cast.

The new arrivals’ roles haven’t been specified, but the show will focus on Bobby Cannavale playing Richie Finestra, the founder and president of a label called American Century Records in 1970s New York. He’s flying high with a solid ear for finding new talent, but he undergoes a crisis of character when he has to make a life-altering decision.

Olivia Wilde is playing Devon, a former actress and model that once lived a Bohemian life in the 1960s but has since devoted herself to family life. The new crisis sends her spinning back into her old ways.

Scorsese shot the pilot (as he did with Boardwalk) and will then be a producer. Winter will be the man assembling the writers’ room and running the series. There’s no word yet on when the series might be on the air, but it could some time next year.

Source Code Sequel Planned

Anna Foerster will direct the follow-up

Chalk this one up under “sequels we’re not sure we saw coming”… Someone has decided to make a follow-up to Source Code, even though the story wrapped up quite neatly in Duncan Jones’ 2011 film. He’s not back for the new one (he’s a little busy polishing his giant Warcraft film), so Anna Foerster is stepping in to take the reins.

Nothing plot-wise has been revealed about the new movie, which will presumably spin a new tale following the project that saw Jake Gyllenhaal’s character experiencing the last eight minutes of someone else’s life during a terrorist attack on a train to try to stop the bombing.

The original film’s writer, Ben Ripley, will once again be on script duty for this one, but no casting has been announced, so we don’t know if any of the original actors around Gyllenhaal – Vera Farmiga, Jeffrey Wright and Michelle Monaghan – or the man himself, will return. He's unlikely given that – SPOILER ALERT – it was revealed he was close to death all along (and the timeline was re-set in any regard).

As for Foerster, she’s a veteran of Roland Emmerich’s films having served as his director of photographer and second unit director. She’s also a regular collaborator with producer Mark Gordon, working on TV shows such as Criminal Minds and Army Wives.

Gordon is driving the new Source Code, but with no distributor set up yet, there’s obviously no release date to report.
